"𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 a cheeseburger with extra pickles, waffle fries, and a strawberry milkshake," Ivy lists off from her spot next to the window in the booth.
Natasha writes it down and nods, gesturing for the next person to go. "Um- just a milkshake," Alouette tells her. Her appetite had diminished into nausea from the walk.
And even though it wasn't long- ever since those doses of chemicals were pumped into her body, she'd felt weaker. Natasha hides her worry, gesturing to James who only asks for an order of fries.
Nat leaves, abandoning the group by themselves. James sat on the outside of the booth next to Ivy, and Alouette sat alone on the other side in front of James. "So Lue," Ivy starts, "How's your treatment going?"
Alouette chews the inside of her lip, twirling her thumbs around each other under the table, "I quit," she answers tentatively. Both James and Ivy turn their heads to her and blink in confusion, Ivy with more furrowed brows.
"You... quit?" She asks slowly. Letty nods. "Like quit your treatment? The one keeping you alive?"
Letty shakes her head, "Okay- the treatment wasn't keeping me alive," she mocks, "It was just helping destroy the cancer inside my body."
"So- it was keeping you alive," James chimes in, stating a fact rather than asking a question, unlike Ivy.
She's glad for the chance to avoid the situation when Natasha comes over and serves the drinks, setting each one down with a small clacking sound that reverberates off the table and follows into Letty's ear canals. James and Ivy's food is served just a moment later.
After walking away, Nat decides to stay close by- not close enough to where she was hovering- just close enough that she would be able to hear the conversation.
She'd heard a small piece of gossip from Steve, whose bed she practically spent every night in, about James and Alouette having met before when he worked at the library. She heard a little of it from Letty, but she, unfortunately, didn't remember any of it.
Steve, however, knew every sentence James had said to her- because apparently, it was the only thing his friend had talked about for days after it happened. Steve had also mentioned, that was very out of character for James, considering his less-than-friendly nature.
And she couldn't help but feel a little pity for the man, he poured his soul out to someone only to meet them three weeks later and find that they remembered nothing about it.
As Natasha pretends to wipe down the table behind them, which had already been cleaned by one of her co-workers, she hears them continue the conversation.
