Since the new Queen was appointed, things started changing all around the kingdom. The most obvious one being the rosy pink letter sent to both neighboring kingdoms, and the rich leaders of towns.

The moment Alexander saw the letter he knew he had to answer it. "Father, please. Sending your own son would only have her put more trust in you. Plus, I am third in line, Arthur and Matthew are unlikely to die before you. And you always complain about me being your weak son. Sending me could only advantage you."

His father sighed. "You're doing one of your rants again. But I suppose it's true. Pack up your bags, and you better not bring any of those soft animal creations you call plushies with you. You're too old for toys." His father put up a hand to dismiss him and Alexander moves swiftly away. Barely registering that he wouldn't be able to bring his things for emotional support.

Sitting down at his table, he meticulously brushed his hair up and out of his face, combed it, and then combed his tail nicely. Everything was to be perfect. As for clothes, apart from 2 specific outfits, he would have his dutiful Butler Conrad chose for him. Otherwise he would not only get overwhelmed, but forget something important.

Alexander took a deep breath and stood up from his seat. The Queen always looked pretty in the little he'd seen of her. He hoped she would be a good Queen. A lot would probably be better than the treatment he got at that estate.

"Do you think they'll like me? The other consorts I mean?" Alexander fidgeted in his seat. His book had been opened but barely read over the journey. And now they were arriving in the city soon.

"I'm sure you'll be fine Alexander."

"I know but what if the other consorts are really mean? I mean they can't be worse than Father but still." His tail swished back and forth quickly.

"Take a deep breath Alexander. You'll go into one of your fits again if you don't slow down. And I'll need to brush out your tail yet again."

"Yes yes sorry." Alexander's tail stopped moving but he lifted up a hand to scratch at his face. The scenery passed by too slow but too fast at the same time. Every bump added to the worry in his chest.

"Alexander. Even if everything goes wrong, I will always be here as your servant."

"Thanks Conrad." Alexander fought the urge to lay down in a much more comforting position on the seat. But that would mess up his hair yet again, but Alexander wasn't sure he could take anymore brushing of his hair. Any sort of grooming at all really. He just wanted to find his chambers and set them up as best as possible so it felt like home.

Maybe he could curl up in bed next to the Queen if she visited him. That helped take Alexander's mind off of things. Imagining how strong she must be from all her work leading the country. How wonderful it would be to be hugged by her arms, to curl up with her comforting him on his first night in a new environment. He blushed slightly just imagining how comfortable it could be.

"We're here."

Alexander was suddenly surprised by an assault of sound through his sternum. He almost jolted up in his seat only to press his ears as flat as they could go against his head. Hopefully the noise would stop soon.

The noise could be felt through his body and the coach shook more than before. Alexander had always hated formal events like these due to the noise. He had no clue how his father and brothers did it all so easily.

The carriage stopped and Alexander got up, glancing at Conrad who nodded as he stood up.

Alexander felt himself get out of the carriage, and to be greeted by the Queen, but it all broke over him like a wave to a rock. He experienced it, but he wasn't there. Not really.

Entering the palace was a beautiful sigh of relief to his whole psyche and he visibly relaxed, his timid side showing loudly.

"Now, let me show you to your room where you will be staying as long as you are a consort!" The Queen was lively, but her voice was so loud it raked on what was left of Alexander's ears.

He simply nodded and slowly followed her to a room. Some of the other consorts peaked out at him. They all looked so brave and strong. So interesting, one even had totally white hair around a young face.

It took a lot of willpower for Alexander to not whimper and shake to the doorway the Queen opened with ease.

"I hope you get settled in for the banquet tonight! We will also be swearing you in as my consort. I'm sure you will play nicely with the rest of them!" Her voice didn't shake Alexander as much who nodded quickly.

"I-I will see you tonight."

"Great!"

Her shoes echoed away as he looked at the room. It was so, white. So plain. Like a blank slate for him.

He entered with Conrad behind him. "Do you think she left it white because she heard I like to paint?" He cocked his head down to the floor, it looked to be made of a nice wood. Sturdy under his feet.

"I wouldn't know Alexander. Do you want to set things up yourself? Or would you rather I did and you can wander the grounds and possibly meet some of the other consorts?"

"I think I'll arrange my room." Alexander answered immediately, the memory of the other consorts scared him. He'd have to meet them all later anyways. Might as well take this time to make sure he knew where everything was.

Alexander took a deep breath. This was going to be tricky.
