You're already inside Sigma's office when you realize how stupid your plan is. With papers on every surface imaginable, how are you supposed to find anything related to the thieves? Thinking about it now, it would've probably been easier to just ask Sigma about any information he withheld. But it's too late now and you're already too deep in this mountain of paperwork to pull yourself out.
The plan that you, Edmund and Uriel decided on was the following. First, you would attend the party to not raise any suspicion. After a while you'd be the first to make up an excuse, leave and search the manager's office for any information not disclosed to you before. Edmund would be next, leaving the party with the excuse of awful diarrhoea. (Uriel came up with that excuse). He would make his way to the security room and look over the recordings of the days prior to the arrest. Lastly, Uriel's job would be a safe one. He was to keep an eye on the staff (read: Lazarus) and cause mayhem to make sure they're preoccupied with ladies complaining about their juice-stained gowns.
Practically buried in the papers, you don't find anything of use. Your mind is too distraught to hear the steps behind you, and the moment you realize you're not alone is already a moment too late.
You forgot one crucial detail, or should you say person.
A hand touches your shoulder.
Sigma.
Your brain is flooded with information and memories. Sigma panicking on the floor, Fyodor wistfully thinking out loud, confused on how the thieves were there. Their security cameras showed nothing. They truly had no idea. They didn't lie to you.
That's not all...
The thieves weren't even supposed to be here.
Their last known location was Paris, and in a private interrogation the two confessed that's exactly where they were staying before magically appearing in the casino, with no way out.
How could this be? This makes no sense at all, if only–
A sharp breath pulls you out of your overflowing mind. On your right, Sigma is frozen in place. He's staring at you, eyes open. He's panting, leaning against a desk with one hand. What did he take? What information did he exchange with you? You try to read his face, but it's impossible. You stand in silence for a while, inspecting each other.
And then, Sigma starts talking.
"You," he mumbles. "I was just trying to figure out what you were hiding, like Dostoyevsky advised me to do."
That bastard. Of course, he'd try to get something to hold against you, he's not an idiot. Even if he behaves like a fool in love, he is still one of the most terrifyingly clever people on planet Earth.
"But this," Sigma's voice trembles. "What the fuck?" His delicate hands grab fistfuls of his hair, and his face contorts into one of panic. Oh no. "AAAAA THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!!!" You step closer to him, silently relating to his screams. "I mean you being from another world is one thing," Sigma chuckles nervously, pacing around the room.
"Wait, don't say it out loud, someone might hear," you try to quiet him down, but it seems like he can't hear you.
"But the fact that you know what's going to happen and that we're not even re-"
That's enough. To prevent Sigma from saying any more, you jump on him and the two of you tumble together onto the floor. You're practically sitting on his chest now, one hand slammed next to his head, the other covering his mouth. "Calm down," you whisper, both of you still panting slightly. "It's a secret for a reason. Please don't scream or else someone might-"
