A tall lanky kid worked at the cafe down on the corner of a slitghtly busy street. A school known for where the best heroes come from was only a couple blocks away.
The cafe wasnt particullarly nice, but wasnt bad looking either. It looked mediocre compared to other internet cafes in the area. But it constantly smelt like freshly brewed coffee and sweets from the bakery side.
The heroes that would work at UA would sometimes come in the mornings and order something small to start their day. The students would come too but the school year hasnt started for them yet.
Andromeda watched as every new customer came in, ordered, sat down, and drank. Andy made the drinks in the back as some customers would watch, which would make him nervous.
Andy's hair was mostly purple and faded to pink as his hair grew. It came with small patches of white patched of hair. He didnt know of it came from stress or was natural at this point but it fit in. He wore a basic graphic T of a show he watched and a pair of loose, gray sweatpants. An apron sat over it protecting his shirt from the staining coffees and teas.
A large set of horns sat on top of his head that had what seemed to be a small floating planet in the middle. The horns werent real through. They were a set of fakes made of plastic and the planet was hung on thin clear string.
Andy wore the fake horns as a diversion from the real problem he had. He was quirkless, which was seen as bad luck from a buisness point of view. If a quirkless kid worked at a cafe people would avoid the store based on pure hatred. So the horns protected him from the backlash of quirklessness.
A normal looking, middle aged lady helped at the register who they called Nena. They didnt know her real name but never bothered to ask. Another worker around his age worked in the bakery side placing the pastries in little baggies for the customers.. Nejire worked diligently, she mostly worked on packing up foods and topping off some of the easier drinks. Andy enjoyed working in the back a bit since it left less room for them to bump into eachother.
"Andy, Nejire, the rush is over and its a beautiful day. Go have fun and do kid things. I got the day from here" Nena turned to dismiss them. Nejire seemed to snap out of the concentration she had while working and turned to Andy with a smile. This seemed to scare him slightly as he knew what was about to happen. She had a tendency to get excited and start talking all day if given the chance. Andy didnt mind talking but she scared him.
"You sure? Its still morning." Andy murmurs out in his quiet shy voice.
"Yeah, go have fun. Its your day off Nejire you dont have to work here." She smiled at them waving her hands in a motion as if ushing them out.
Andy took off his apron nervously and hung it on the hook in the corner. He didnt have any other plans that day and going to school wasnt an option he wanted.
Outside the back the streets were filled with adults doing their own thing. Each looked different with some varrying in size and shape while others looked simular to his shape. Although size is a different story.
"What are you going to do today? Also why do you wear those horns, those are fake right? Is it cause your quirkless? You only wear them at work" Nejire questioned Andy who just wanted to go.
"Uh. Its so people will come in." He muttered out with a paniced look in his face.
"Wait so you wear it so people come into the cafe? What does you wearing horns have to do with customers?" She poked at the horns on his head. They easily wobbled and the planet inside shook with every nudge.
"Quirkless things"
"So people wont come in if youre quirkless?"
"No" Andy avoided eye contact like he usually did and Nejire talked for hours as usual.
"Why are people mean to- Oh hey, are those my friends?" She raised her hand in the air as her friends noticed and repeated. "Hey those are my friends I got to go!"
Nejire darted across the street to her friends and Andromeda was one again alone. He could do what he wanted to do this whole time.
Andy makes his way home in the warm fall sun. It was abnormally hot for that day but still cool out.
He carefully treading into his appartment where his mom sat across the couch. Bottles and cans littered the coffee table and floor with some spilling a bit.
Andy turned away from his mom and walked across the living room and into the hallway. To the left of the hallway a sign made of kids spelling toys were nailed to the door spelling 'Andromeda'.
Behind the door laid a little kids room complete with a bed for a small child, not for a six foot tall teenager. A desk is pushed into the corner of the room. A small laptop is on top and a mouse is connected with a beat up wire.
Posters covered the wall. Posters from heroes to villains being defeated. There was so many posters the walls were mostly paper. Some little drawing managed to make their way into the mix.
One hero that could be spotted in almost every posted was All Might. Andy liked him as a little kid and wanted to be a hero like him. Sadly he grew out of the hero but still never changed his room from the way it was. From before the disaster.
