It was a cloudy yet peaceful Saturday morning. The smell of snow filled the air yet not a flake droplet touched the ground. It was cold out, but just barely warm enough for snow to turn to rain.
It was the night after the syrup had covered the streets in the explosion. The smell of sugar stuck onto Andy's skin like glue. Attempts to get the smell off failed horribly as the smell covered a 3 foot area around him.
Andy walked into the back door of the cafe early in the morning. The warm cafe air comforted him as he walked into the breakroom. He had filled the backpack with his gear in hopes he could repair the hole in his gauntlet that day. He places the black bag onto the round table before walking out to the front.
"Andy did you not sleep last night?" Nena walks up to Andy. The smell of sugar fills her nose as she gets closer. "Woah you smell sweet. What happened?"
"Villain broke two canisters. Covered the whole street with Sugar Crystal" He smiles to himself. "Got that pro hero who was here with Midnight the other day too"
"So you didn't get sleep cause you were out doing vigilante work. You should take better care of yourself!" she poked him in the shoulder playfully.
"No. I spent all night trying to wash the smell out. It's only half as bad as it used to be" He put on the apron and started walking to the coffee machines.
"Is it that bad?
"Two full canisters. I didn't even get the worst of it. The hero is gonna be a human air freshener." He walked around the back grabbing the stuff he needed to make the coffees and teas. Nena giggled a bit at the hero who happened to be walking in the door. Andy hasn't even noticed him yet. He was already stuck in the trance of making coffee.
"Can I just get a black coffee?" Mr. Aizawa asked Nena who had made her way to the front counter. Andy stopped for a second in shock of his voice before quickly continuing his duties.
"Sure." She turns to the kid, pointing her finger at him. "you heard him right?"
Andy nods his head and turns back to the machine. Nena turns once again to the hero
"What's with the sugar smell?" She asked
"Cant wash it out after i got caught in someone's capture weapon" He goes to smell his sweatshirt.
"Oh, sounds like an eventful day then"
"Sorry if your whole cafe starts to smell like that stuff." He apologizes
"I'm sure it'll be fine" She smiles at him before Andy reaches over her to place the coffee on the counter for the hero. The smell of sugar quickly overwhelms Nena as she tries to keep it in. Between both of them it was like a whole different wave of sweet.
They rest of the interaction occurs and Nena walks to the back where Andy worked
"Andy.... what did the canister of Sugar Crystal look like?" She stopped what he was doing.
"It's a can with a long straw labeled Sugar Crystal with my logo on it." He grew concerned at her. Her eyes grew as she realized what the hero was holding in his hand. He quickly realized what had happened and looked around the corner.
The hero was sitting on one of the tables on the corner looking at the banged up can and the ones that had exploded. He rolled it around in his hand before noticing Andy looking at him. He quickly turned back around the corner before freaking out.
"He has the one that didn't explode. I was sarcastic about taking it." He whispers go her
"Your problem. Not mine" she attempts to turn around before Andy grabs her shoulder.
"No its your problem too, if it explodes in here it'll cover everything"
"Then don't let it happen" She replied like she knew it would all be fine. Andy huffed in fear before turning around. He turned around to be greeted by Mr. Aizawas deadly glare
"You know what this is?" He asked, showing the kid the canister.
Andy turned around in a panic and stammered "I ugh- i- its- uhm."
"You know who Zero is?" He placed the canister down on the counter which made the kid flinch.
"I uhm- yeah uhm, sort of" He nervously spoke out. He walked to get a cup and quickly filled it with water and walked back to Mr. Aizawa.
"What's the cup for?"
"Canister" he pointed to the Sugar Crystal on the counter. The hero gives him the canister and he quickly puts it in the cup and closes it off. The hero watches closely as he waits for some sort of reaction to happen.
"What does it do?" He grabbed the cup from the kid.
"Stops explosions" Andy melts a bit as part of his anxiety disappears for the moment.
"So you know how to work these?" He knew the kid couldn't be Zero. The kid was sky and quiet unlike the vigilante. Zero was loud and outgoing.
"I uhm- i kinda- i do" he stutters out in a nervous reck. "I uhm. I build his stuff"
"So you know where his broken gauntlets are and more canisters like this?"
"I- i uhm- i do"
"Can you tell me more about the gear he uses?"
"Uhm-i... can" he backs away from the counter.
"Well, I don't have a class to teach today so I have time to waste." He looks at the cup with the canister and picks it up to examine it.
"So i- eh- i can, i" he stumbles on his words trying to choose his words carefully "i can show you. Will that be easier?"
"Do you have his gear on you?"
"I uh... do. It's in the break room." He points his thumbs back.
"Sure" he walks behind the counter himself to follow the kid. Part of him expected a trap and the kid was just luring him. Andy walked into the break room with the hero who wanted him in jail following him.
Nena saw the hero walk in with the kid and tried to control her laughter at his obvious panic. Andy grabbed the bag full of his gear and started displaying the gauntlets on the table. The bright yellow color became easier to see during the day and was quite blinding against the fluorescent lights.
"So these are the gauntlets he used last night?" He turns them around to see the giant hole ripped inside of them. The sewing needle ripped the metal shell leaving almost a bullet wound inside. "Oh"
"He kinda asked for a repair and better made cans" He pulled out three canisters from the first prototype that had exploded.
"Are those ones you have exploded?"
"Yeah, uhm they broke these"
"How bad are the explosions usually?"
"Uh- could fill a room or two" he handed the broken canisters to the hero. "Are you gonna take the gear?"
"Hm? Why would I take the gear?"
"Cause isn't he the vigilante you're going after?"
"Eh, I dropped the case. Not worth it"
"Oh, alright"
"What's that over there?" He pointed to a pair of palm blasters on the table Andy was putting together for the entrance exam.
"Uh, it's uh, a project , i am uh, i" He stammered.
"He wants to go to U.A is what he's saying. He's been making that since fall." Nena chimes into the conversation.
"Well I wish you luck in getting in." He placed the gauntlets back on the table and started to walk out of the break room. He didnt want to stress the kid who was already anxious and decided it was best to not interrogate the kid more. Either way it would end in a bunch of stuttering and incoherent sentences.
"MR. AIZAWA? What are you doing here?" Nejire asked loudly as she enters the cafe. Andy grabbed all of his gear and shoved it in the bag again.
Andy walks out the back to avoid the onslaught of questions from Nejire when she sees the handful of his gear. Andy didn't mind her, but the constant questioning scared him.
