Langa had just discovered a little nugget of information that made his heart flutter with excitement—Reki loved cats. He'd only learned this a few minutes ago, during one of their late-night talks about random things, but it immediately stuck in his mind. Cats. The way Reki's eyes sparkled when he mentioned them, the fondness in his voice when he'd jokingly called himself a "cat person" — it was all so cute. Langa immediately decided that, as his boyfriend, it was his duty to find the perfect gift to make Reki smile.
So, as he was leaving work, he pulled out his phone and started scrolling through Amazon. He knew he didn't have much time to get something special, but luck was on his side when he came across a plush cat. It was huge—36 inches of cuddly softness, with a fluffy white coat and bright, sky-blue eyes. It was perfect. He could already picture Reki snuggling with it.
He checked the price: $10. It was too good to pass up. Langa quickly clicked on the "Buy Now" button, opting for his special, super-fast overnight shipping. All he had to do was wait until tomorrow to give Reki the perfect gift.
Reki had been dealing with a lot lately—family issues, school stress—and Langa hoped that the plush cat would bring him some comfort. It was small, but it was something that came from Langa's heart, and that was all he wanted to do: make Reki feel loved.
Just as Langa confirmed the purchase, Reki walked right into him. Langa blinked, surprised, but quickly smiled. "Oh, hey, Reki!" he greeted him, his voice warm with affection.
Reki was still wearing his work clothes and looked like he was just finishing a late shift. "Hey, Langa," he muttered, almost in a daze, as if his mind was elsewhere. "I just closed up a big order."
"Hello my love," Langa greeted him again, pulling him into a tight hug. He buried his face in the crook of Reki's neck, letting the familiar scent of his boyfriend wash over him. It was comforting in a way that made Langa feel safe.
Reki pulled back first, his hands lightly resting on Langa's shoulders. "You know," he said, his voice soft, "you look really good in green." He took a small step back, his eyes studying Langa's outfit, admiring the way the green hoodie contrasted against his blue hair.
Langa's cheeks turned a soft pink, and he stammered, "T-thanks." It was adorable how easily Reki could make him blush.
"So," Reki continued, "I need to bring something back. Do you wanna come with me? Since I'm off now, maybe we can hang out afterward?"
Langa's heart skipped a beat. He could never get enough of Reki's simple, everyday questions. They'd been dating for two years, but every time Reki invited him to spend time together, it felt like the first time all over again. "Yeah, of course!" Langa said, maybe a little too enthusiastically.
Reki smiled and grabbed Langa's hand, leading the way down the street. Langa felt his heart swell. Being with Reki made him feel like he was walking on air. He didn't realize it until now, but Reki had become such a huge part of his life. He really was everything to him now. More than he ever expected.
As they arrived at the store, Langa quickly darted inside, saying, "Hey, I'll go put the stuff inside. You wait here for a sec, okay?" He disappeared into the building, and Reki stood there, quietly staring after him.
Langa had a few tricks up his sleeve—one of which was the ability to forge his own handwriting to clock Reki out early, something that made him chuckle every time. He returned to Reki, a mischievous grin on his face. "Alright, so, mine or yours?"
Reki thought for a moment, tapping his chin in mock contemplation. Then, his puppy-dog eyes turned to Langa, a smile tugging at his lips. "Yours, please." The way he said it made Langa's heart skip a beat.
"Alrighty then. Let's go," Langa replied with a grin, taking Reki's hand as they walked down the street toward his apartment.
Once they arrived, Langa unlocked the door and held it open for Reki, who immediately kicked off his shoes and made a beeline for the bedroom. "Cuddles," Reki demanded in a childlike voice, his tone playful yet earnest. Langa couldn't help but smile—this was one of the things he loved about Reki: his unabashed vulnerability.
"Alright, but you have to go change first," Langa said, pulling Reki back. "I know those work clothes aren't comfy."
Reki groaned dramatically. "Heey~" he whined, but Langa was already walking over to his closet, grabbing a t-shirt and shorts. He tossed them at Reki. "Sorry, honey, just go change," Langa teased, his smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
Reki, never one to do things the conventional way, simply stood up and changed right there. Langa couldn't help but blush a little, though it wasn't anything new. It was just Reki being Reki. Still, it made him a bit flustered.
When Reki was done, he pouted and made his way back to Langa. "Okay, cuddles now." Langa laughed and held his arms out, and Reki happily melted into his embrace, resting his head on Langa's chest.
Just as they were getting comfortable, a knock at the door interrupted their moment. Langa sighed heavily, and Reki groaned in frustration. "I'm sorry, I have to get it," Langa said, reluctantly pulling away.
Reki whined again and followed him to the door. Langa opened it, finding a package waiting for him. He checked his phone and saw the delivery notification—already arrived.
Excited, Langa picked up the box and returned to the room. He sat down next to Reki and handed him the package. "For you."
Reki's eyes lit up at the sight of the box. "Oh my god, I love you so much!" he exclaimed, pulling Langa into a tight, quick hug. Then, he ripped open the package and gasped as he pulled out the plush cat. It was just as soft and cuddly as he had imagined.
"I love it so much!" he squealed. "Thank you, Langa!"
Langa's heart swelled as he watched Reki cuddle the cat to his chest. Reki glanced up at him, his face full of excitement. "What should I name him?"
The plush cat, with its white fur and sky-blue eyes, was perfect. Langa helped Reki think for a moment, and finally, Reki beamed. "I know! How about... Snow?"
Langa cringed slightly at the name, remembering his old skating name, but Reki adored it, and that made Langa happy. "Snow it is," he agreed with a smile, and the new plush cat joined them for the night.
The three of them—Langa, Reki, and Snow—settled into a comfortable cuddle session. Reki drifted off to sleep with Snow in his arms, and Langa, content and at peace, simply held him close.
As they lay there, Langa thought about how perfect their life was, how even the little things—like a soft, oversized cat plush—could make all the difference in the world. And with Reki by his side, everything felt just right.
