Miya's POV

We're at some fancy resort for... something involving Cherry and Joe. I couldn't tell you what exactly, though. All I know is that Joe—being the charming, over-the-top guy he is—somehow convinced my mom to let me come along. All because of his stupid, pretty-boy looks.

I roll my eyes just thinking about it. Typical Joe. Always using that smile of his to get his way.

So here I am, stuck at this "family" vacation. It's not like I'm in the mood to bond with anyone. I'm not a family vacation type of person. I just want to do my thing and stay out of everyone's way.

I ended up in a room by myself—turns out, we had way more rooms than necessary—and I've been spending the time on my Nintendo Switch. The new role-playing game I'm hooked on had me fully absorbed, and I was doing really well. So well, in fact, that I'd been on a winning streak for hours.

Everything was fine until, of course, Reki decided to barge in without knocking.

"REKI! Nooo!" I yelled, staring at the screen in frustration as I lost my streak, all because of him.

Reki, looking way too comfortable, just stood there awkwardly, not even acknowledging that he'd just ruined my gaming moment. "Uh, you can get in the shower now..."

Seriously? He just walks in like it's no big deal?

But of course, instead of apologizing, he turned away, casually skipping out of my room and heading straight to Langa's. I could practically hear him humming a tune.

I rolled my eyes, muttering under my breath as I got up. I set my Switch down to charge—at 4%, of course, because I had completely forgotten to plug it in earlier—and walked to the bathroom.

The bathroom was enormous, and I couldn't help but be impressed by how fancy everything was. Wow... okay, this is kind of nice, I thought as I stepped inside. I couldn't help but feel a little out of place in this ridiculous resort.

After finishing my shower, I wrapped myself in one of the fluffiest towels I'd ever felt. My hair dried quickly, and I couldn't help but relish the warmth of the towel. Still, the whole situation felt... strange.

I pulled on a simple green shirt with a cat on it and threw on my matching hoodie before making my way back to my room, hoping to avoid any more awkward interactions with the others.

When I picked up my Switch to check on it, my stomach dropped. It was still at 4%. Great. I'm screwed. I hadn't plugged it in when I'd left, and now my gaming life was over.

I dropped back onto the cold floor in frustration, my back resting against the edge of the bed. I closed my eyes, letting my mind wander as I thought about... everything. Why was I here? What was the point of all this?

Out of nowhere, I felt something wet on my cheeks. I froze. Wait... Am I... crying?

I quickly wiped my face, but the tears kept coming. I never cry. Why was I crying now?

Just as I was trying to process what was happening, Reki burst into my room again, this time dragging Langa along behind him.

"Miya, we shou—Miya?" Reki's voice softened when he saw me. He quickly crouched down to my level, his usual playful expression gone, replaced by something... concerned.

Langa, ever the calm one, stood there for a moment before stepping forward, his hand gently resting on my shoulder. His touch was light, but there was something reassuring about it.

"What's wrong?" Langa asked softly.

I didn't know what to say. I just shrugged, my head buried in my knees, and I was pretty sure I was shaking. I didn't even know why I was crying. All I knew was that, for some reason, I felt so alone in this moment.

Reki and Langa exchanged a glance. I could tell neither of them knew what to do. They were both used to my tough exterior, and seeing me like this must've been a shock.

Without a word, Langa helped me stand up, guiding me to my feet as Reki gently pulled me into a hug. I froze for a moment, unsure how to react. But then, just as quickly, I felt my arms wrap around them. I gave in.

The hug was warm, and for a moment, I let myself forget about everything else. I smiled softly. It was a small smile, but it was there. I felt... safe, in a way I didn't expect.

It was nice.

Later, we ended up meeting with Joe and Cherry down by the firepit, roasting marshmallows. Even though I'd felt so overwhelmed earlier, I ended up spending the evening with Reki and Langa.

The three of us talked about everything—school, skating, random nonsense—and I couldn't help but laugh at all the ridiculous things we came up with. They had this energy, this way of making everything feel lighthearted, even when things got awkward or weird. It was easy to get lost in the moment with them.

I never expected to have so much fun, but there I was, genuinely enjoying myself. It was a rare feeling, one I didn't let myself experience often.

In that moment, I realized something.

Maybe it wasn't about the vacation or the fancy resort. Maybe it was about these people—my friends—who cared enough to make me feel like I belonged, even when I wasn't sure I did.

I could honestly say, in that quiet, peaceful moment, surrounded by laughter and warmth, that I was happy.

For the first time in a while, I felt like I was exactly where I needed to be.
