Langa Pov
I skated through the streets, the wind cool against my skin as I made my way to Reki's house. He hadn't responded to my texts, but that wasn't unusual. Reki got caught up in things all the time—fixing boards, goofing off at the park, or maybe just getting lost in his own thoughts. I figured I'd check in on him anyway.
As I passed by our usual meeting spot near the skate park, I noticed it was empty. No Reki. I pushed forward, weaving through the streets until I reached his house.
Stopping just outside, I sent him another message. Hey, I'm at your place. No reply.
With a small sigh, I laid my skateboard down near the front door and knocked. A minute passed with no answer, but then the door swung open to reveal Reki's mom.
"Oh, Langa!" she greeted warmly, stepping aside. "Reki's not home right now, he's out somewhere."
My stomach sank a little. I hadn't even considered the possibility that he wouldn't be here. "Oh... do you know where he went?"
She shook her head. "I'm not sure, but he should be back soon. You're welcome to come in and wait for him."
I smiled politely. "Thank you."
Stepping inside, I removed my shoes, immediately hit by the familiar, comforting scent of freshly cooked food. Shio ramen, I realized—Reki's favorite. It made me smile, thinking of how much he loved it.
I headed up to his room, dropping my bag by his desk before sitting on the bed. Reki's room was the same as always—posters of skaters, stickers covering his drawers, and unfinished sketches of board designs littering his desk. I picked one up, admiring the rough but intricate details of his latest idea.
"Geez, you're finally home, Reki, I need yo—"
I looked up just in time to see Koyomi standing in the doorway, eyes widening when she spotted me instead of her brother.
"...Langa?" She blinked in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm waiting for Reki," I replied simply.
She shrugged, seemingly uninterested, before turning on her heel and walking out. I chuckled under my breath. She's always so dramatic.
A few minutes passed, the house quiet aside from distant chatter from the kitchen. Then, the door creaked open again.
"Reki?" I looked up expectantly, but instead of him, Koyomi entered—this time with Nanaka and Chihiro following close behind.
I blinked at them. "Uh...?"
"I'm bored," Koyomi declared. "So, can we do your hair and makeup?"
The wide, mischievous grin on her face sent a slight chill down my spine. I hesitated, my instincts warning me against whatever chaos they had in mind. But before I could come up with an excuse, Chihiro and Nanaka were already staring at me with big, hopeful eyes.
I sighed. "Um... sure?"
They practically squealed in delight before rushing forward and tackling me in a hug. I just sat there, letting them do as they pleased, accepting my fate.
As the twins got to work on my hair, Koyomi sat in front of me with an entire stash of makeup spread across her lap.
"This might feel weird at first," she warned, holding up a brush.
I stayed still as she started applying eyeshadow, blending blue and purple shades across my eyelids with impressive focus. "Stop moving," she huffed. "And relax your face."
