Snow Day!

The first snowfall of the season had transformed the town into a winter wonderland overnight. Streets were dusted in white, rooftops carried delicate blankets of snow, and the park where Reki and Langa usually skated was now an untouched expanse of frosty beauty.

Reki had woken up to the sight of heavy snowflakes drifting past his bedroom window. The sheer excitement sent him bolting out of bed and rushing to get dressed. Snow wasn't a rare sight, but seeing it stick this much was an opportunity he couldn't waste. He grabbed his phone and texted Langa immediately.

Reki: SNOW!!!

Langa: I know! It's amazing.

Reki: Bro we HAVE to go out! Meet me at the park!

Langa: I was already planning to. Be there in 10.

Grinning, Reki shoved his phone into his pocket, threw on his warmest jacket, and darted out the door, practically sprinting through the streets. The air was crisp, cold, and refreshing, and every step crunched softly under his boots.

By the time Reki arrived at the park, Langa was already there, dressed in a thick blue coat with a scarf wrapped snugly around his neck. He looked effortlessly cool as always, but there was a childlike sparkle in his eyes. Snow reminded him of home in Canada, and Reki could tell he was already lost in the nostalgia.

"You actually beat me here?" Reki panted, catching his breath.

Langa smirked. "You're slow."

Reki huffed. "Yeah, yeah, whatever. Anyway, what should we do first?"

Langa's eyes flickered toward a fresh patch of snow. Without warning, he dropped onto his back, arms and legs moving wildly. "Snow angel."

Reki burst out laughing. "Dude, you didn't even hesitate!" But seeing Langa looking so happy, he flopped down beside him and started making one too.

They lay there for a while, staring up at the sky as snowflakes drifted down onto their faces. Reki turned his head slightly to look at Langa, who had a peaceful expression. "You miss it, huh?"

Langa blinked and glanced at him. "Yeah. Snow like this reminds me of home. I used to go snowboarding all the time."

Reki hesitated for a moment before saying, "Well, I can't give you mountains, but I can give you a killer sledding experience. Come on."

Dragging Langa by the arm, Reki led him to a steep hill where kids were already zooming down on sleds. "Okay, here's the plan," Reki said confidently. "We borrow a sled, double up, and go flying down. Easy."

Langa tilted his head. "Borrow?"

"Fine, fine, I'll ask." Reki approached a group of kids and, after some negotiations (which involved promising to buy them hot chocolate later), he returned with a sled. "Alright, ready?"

They both sat on the sled, Reki in front, Langa behind him with his arms loosely wrapped around his waist. "You scared?" Langa teased.

"Pfft, as if," Reki scoffed. "Alright, let's go!"

With a push, they launched themselves down the hill. The sled sped over the icy surface, cold air rushing past their faces. Reki whooped loudly, and even Langa let out a rare laugh. They hit a bump halfway down, causing them to catch air for a split second before landing again, the impact making them burst into laughter.

By the time they reached the bottom, Reki was breathless from both exhilaration and laughter. "That. Was. Awesome!"

Langa, still grinning, nodded. "Let's do it again."

They spent hours playing in the snow—sledding, having snowball fights (which Langa was annoyingly good at), and even attempting to build a snowman that ended up looking more like a snow blob. Eventually, their fingers and noses turned red from the cold, and Langa suggested they head to a café to warm up.

Once inside, the warmth was immediate and comforting. They peeled off their gloves and ordered two hot chocolates, sinking into their seats by the window. Reki cupped his hands around his mug, letting the warmth seep into his fingers.

"Today was fun," Langa said, stirring his drink.

Reki grinned. "Yeah, it was. I think I made a pretty great substitute for your Canadian snow days, huh?"

Langa gave him a small smile. "Yeah. You did."

Reki felt his face warm a little, and he quickly took a sip of his hot chocolate to hide it. They sat there for a while, watching the snow continue to fall outside, feeling content in each other's company.

It was just another winter day, but somehow, it felt perfect.
