Reki's POV

The day had started off perfect. Langa and I were strolling hand in hand down the street, laughing and talking, just the two of us—well, almost.

Miya was trailing alongside us, arms crossed, looking thoroughly unimpressed.

"Don't act so miserable," I grumbled. "It's just ice cream."

"It's not just ice cream," Miya shot back. "It's me, third-wheeling your date because Joe and Cherry had 'important matters to handle.'"

I rolled my eyes. Yeah, right. Knowing those two, they were probably off drinking somewhere, and we got stuck with babysitting duty.

Langa, of course, was completely unbothered by Miya's presence. "I don't mind," he said, squeezing my hand. "He's kinda like a little brother, right?"

I scoffed. "Yeah. An annoying one."

Miya smirked. "Aw, love you too, Reki."

I ignored him and pushed open the door to the ice cream shop. The scent of vanilla, chocolate, and fruit instantly hit me, flooding my mind with childhood memories. The place was small, cozy, and filled with the hum of soft chatter. The glass display case showcased rows of colorful ice cream flavors, each one looking better than the last.

Langa's eyes lit up as he stared at the options. "What do you want?" I asked, watching as he carefully studied the selection.

After a moment, he turned to me with a small smile. "Wanna share a chocolate?"

My heart did a dumb little flip.

I nodded quickly. "Yeah. Chocolate sounds good."

As I placed our order, Miya cleared his throat loudly behind me.

"Uh, hello? What about me?"

I sighed, already regretting bringing him along. "What do you want?"

Miya leaned slightly against the counter, his expression smug. "Mint. Obviously."

Figures.

The cashier rang up the total. "That'll be 12.50."

I pulled out my wallet and handed her the cash, already deciding that Joe and Cherry owed me big time.

We took our ice cream outside, settling at a small table beneath the awning. The evening breeze was cool but not too strong, and the golden hues of the sunset painted the streets in warm light. It would've been perfect—if not for the small gremlin sitting across from us.

Langa and I chatted as we ate, our conversation bouncing from skating to school to all the weird stuff that had happened recently. Miya chimed in here and there, mostly to make some snarky remark, but I tried to ignore him.

I scooped a spoonful of ice cream and held it out to Langa. "Here."

He leaned forward, taking the bite straight from the spoon. His lips wrapped around it, his blue eyes locking onto mine as he pulled back with a small hum of satisfaction.

My face burned.

Miya, of course, wasted no time ruining the moment. "Do I get to be fed too?" he teased, bursting into laughter at my expression.

"Absolutely not," I deadpanned.

Miya only grinned, clearly enjoying himself. He reached over and stole a spoonful of our ice cream, taking a dramatic bite. He made a face. "Not bad, slimes. But it's too much for me."

I just stared at him. "Then why did you take some?!"

Langa chuckled and reached for my hand, intertwining our fingers before running his thumb along my palm. The simple action was enough to make me forget my frustration.

We continued eating, Langa leaning closer every so often, murmuring small, flirty comments that made my brain short-circuit. Every time he did, I could see Miya making exaggerated gagging gestures from across the table, but I ignored him.

Langa and I finished our ice cream first, while Miya took his time with his mint-flavored monstrosity.

"Hurry up and finish, lovebirds, so we can go," he grumbled, tapping his spoon against his cup.

I groaned. "You're the one still eating!"

Miya shrugged. "Yeah, but watching you two flirt makes me lose my appetite."

Despite his words, he finished his ice cream soon after, and we started walking back toward Joe's restaurant. The streets were quieter now, the sun dipping lower into the horizon. It should've been a peaceful walk.

Should've been.

Miya suddenly sighed dramatically.

"You guys walk so slow," he complained.

Before I could tell him to deal with it, he stepped between Langa and me, grabbing both of our hands without warning.

I froze. "Miya—what the hell?"

He smirked. "What? You guys are always holding hands. I just wanted to see what the hype was about."

I looked over at Langa, expecting him to pull away, but he only tilted his head slightly, completely unfazed. "His hand is kind of small," Langa commented, as if this was a normal thing.

Miya scoffed. "I have perfectly proportioned hands, thank you very much."

I tried to yank my hand away, but Miya only tightened his grip, clearly having way too much fun with this.

"Come on, Reki, let's all be friends," he teased, swinging our arms slightly.

I groaned. "You're so annoying."

Miya grinned, clearly satisfied with himself. "Yeah, but you love me."

"Nope."

"Langa does, though."

Langa hummed. "I tolerate you."

Miya snorted. "I'll take it."

With that, we continued down the street—Miya grinning like a little menace, Langa as unbothered as ever, and me, trapped in the most ridiculous third-wheeling scenario imaginable.

And, somehow, I didn't completely hate it.
