[ this was a request for 1950Madhatter ! i had so much fun writing this one :) <3 ]
angel sighed as they walked in through the door. it had been a long day at work, somewhere they didn't want to be on their birthday. they placed their bag down onto the floor and slipped off their shoes. hanging their coat up on the hook in the entrance to the house.
they'd been checking their phone all day, waiting for a message from someone, anyone. but they hadn't received a single 'happy birthday' not even from david. they knew he had a lot going on in his head right now, but surely he could remember his own mates birthday right? tears welled up in their eyes, he wasn't home yet, so they decided to just let them fall. no-one cared enough about them to even remember their day. the day they came into this world.
they practically ran into their bedroom, stripping down and putting on one of david's t-shirts and a pair of shorts. pulling the covers back and climbing into bed. they began to cry into their pillow, loud sobs emerging from their lips every now and then. "how could everyone have forgotten?" they thought.
they shot up as they heard their phone go off. it was a notification from david, but not the one they were hoping for.
davey 💖 ; on my way home angel, hope you had a good day, since we've got nothing going on tonight do you maybe wanna play a game or something? i love you.
'nothing going on?' they stared at that same sentence for a few moments. "he really did forget too" they muttered. their breath began to shake, more tears falling now. they threw their phone onto the floor and covered their head with the duvet, slowing crying themself to sleep.
ten minutes later
"what a fucking day" david sighed as he walked in through the door. he checked his phone, still waiting for a reply from angel, but to no avail. that's when he saw the date, at the top of his phone, and it all clicked. it was his angel's birthday, and he had literally forgotten about it. "SHIT! how could i be so fucking stupid!" he groaned.
"angel? where are you?" he questioned, as he walked through the house, making his way into his bedroom, seeing a lump in the bed. he sighed as he walked over to the bed, softly lifting the duvet off of angel's head, not waking them up. he leant down and left a soft kiss on angel's temple. "i'm so sorry my love" he sighed, before standing back up and making his way back to the front door.
thirty minutes later
david arrived home once more, having just been to the mall. he placed the bags down onto the counter, quickly checking if angel was still asleep, to which they were.
he quickly wrapped up a gift he bought for them from a jewellery store, and wrote in the card he bought for them. before beginning to blow up some balloons and pinning up a 'happy birthday banner'. he smiled as he stepped back and looked at his masterpiece.
he made his way into his bedroom, kneeling down next th angel's side of the bed. "hey, angel?" he gently shook them awake, his heart broke when he saw their puffy red eyes. "happy birthday my love" he smiled, running his fingers through angel's hair. "oh my gosh! you remembered? i thought everyone had forgotten, including you" angel spoke, muttering the last part. a lump sat in david's throat. "i'm so sorry angel, i hasn't realised what the date was, I was just so caught up with work and everything that has happened in the past few months. i feel so fucking awful, i'm so sorry my angel" david spoke, staring into his mates eyes.
"o-oh" angel muttered. he had forgotten? "s-so you did forget?" they mumbled, very quietly. the tears forming in their eyes once more. "oh baby, i'm so fucking sorry" david spoke, tears appearing in his eyes now too. he pulled angel into a hug, his hand resting on the back of angel's head, pulling them in even closer than before. "wanna come with me and see what i've got for you out there?" david muttered into angel's ear. they simply nodded. "c'mon then" he smiled, as he picked them up and walked them out into the living room.
"happy birthday angel" he spoke as he set them down, watching as their eyes lit up as they saw the surprise david had set up for them. "oh- wow, thank you so much!" they yelled excitedly before jumping into his arms, he chuckled as he caught them.
"open your present!" he smiled as he set them down again. angel walked over to the couch and sat down, patting the spot next to them for david. they grabbed the card off of the table and began to read it ;

happiest of birthdays to my favourite person on the planet. I am
so incredibly sorry I forgot about your birthday today, i just have so much going on at the moment, which i know isn't an excuse but, gosh i don't know how to explain how sorry i am. i am going to make it up to you over the weekend, with something special planned, that i had planned months ago for your birthday but I forgot about that too. but for now, I got you a little something just to say sorry. i love you so much, and i'm so grateful to have you. happy birthday my love. all of my love, always.

angel smiled, as they looked over at david. "I love you so much" angel spoke, wrapping their arms around david's neck leaning a gentle kiss to it, before pulling away and opening the present he got them. they pulled back the wrapping and saw a jewellery box. they gently took the lid off to be met with a gorgeous silver necklace, with a charm of a wolf. a smile fell upon their face. "oh my gosh! davey! i love it! thank you so much"
"im so glad! I thought you might have thought it was a little cheesy" he chuckled as angel flung themselves into his arms once more. "thank you, david. even if no-one else remembered, i'm the happiest that you did" angel spoke as they nuzzled their head into david's chest. "don't get too comfy angel, we've still got to do your cake" david smiled, another smiling falling onto angel's.
