it had been a long day, and the freelancer was looking forward to going home and cuddling with their boyfriend, gavin.

they grabbed their phone out of their back pocket, and began so answer messages they had received throughout the day. they were almost out of the building when they overheard ;

"you see that person over there? they're friends with that brainless TA" one of them spoke. "oh yeahhhh, huxley, i swear he doesn't even possess one braincell, let alone enough to make him viable to be a TA" the other one chuckled.

the freelancer swore they felt their blood boil. were they really talking about who they thought they were? were they really talking about huxley? had they ever met him? they tried to stay as calm as possible as they walked over to the two people.

the freelancer had a pretty good idea that they were water elementals, and from their experience with water elementals, they had grown to rather dislike them, and these two were just furthering their point. "excuse me" they spoke, the pair looked over at them, and looked them up and down. "yes?" one of them frowned. "i came over to enquire something" the freelancer spoke. "what?" the other one sighed, clearly annoyed. "why were you talking about huxley like that?, actually scrap that, why were you talking about huxley, at all?" the freelancer scowled.

"oh, well, last time we checked, we were allowed to speak about anyone we liked, however we liked, so what's it to you?" and before the freelancer could reply, the other one had to go and open their mouth. "it's not like anything we were saying wasn't true" they chuckled. "you listen to me and you listen close" the freelancer spoke, their tone not so friendly anymore, as they moved in closer, cornering the two. "if i hear you say another bad word about my bestfriend, who by the way, is the sweetest, kindest, smartest, most understanding soul you'd ever meet, again——

huxley exited the classroom he was working in that day, he heard a familiar voice, the freelancer's, but as he listened closer, he heard them speaking, and never before had he heard them sound so angry.

"you'll wish you never attended this academy. huxley is the most amazing person i've ever met, he's sweet, kind, loving, caring, he's everything you could ask for in a friend, a bestfriend. he makes me so happy every fucking day, he doesn't deserve to be being put down by assholes like you two. you don't even deserve to be blessed with the mere presence of him, so get his name out of your mouthes, and never speak about him EVER again! you got that?" the freelancer spat, and the two water elementals nodded frantically before mumbling a quick 'sorry' each and running off.

huxley heard the freelancer let out a sigh, as they lifted their hand up to their eyes to wipe them, "hey! freelancer!" he exclaimed as he walked over to them, his arms out ready for a hug, the way he usually greeted them. the freelancer looked over at him, and smiled a sad smile before letting themself he embraced in his arms. "dude? you good?" he asked, and the freelancer nodded against his chest. "i a-am now" they sighed. "d-did you hear any of that?" they asked, they felt huxley nod. "s-sorry" "sorry for what dude? i've never had someone stick up for me before! and the things you said were, so fucking sweet" he smiled, wrapping his arms around the freelancer tighter.

"I love you, hux" they sniffed, "i love you too dude! now, want me to walk ya home?" he smiled, "please" the freelancer flashed a smile back at him.
