There was a certain aura around the room. The men were gathered in the Great Room of Winterfell along with all of the houses of the North.
Robb sat next to Jon while Jaehaerys sat next to her husband. Sansa sat on the other side of Jaehaerys, the two women looking just as powerful as the men.
"Robb Stark might have been betrayed, but Jon restored the North! Jon should be the King!" Someone shouted from the crowd making Jon groan loudly.
"I don't want to be King! Robb is the true heir of Winterfell! He survived the Red Wedding! Instead of letting the lot of you die, he sent you home! To be with your families! He didn't ask you to fight the Frey's in revenge! He didn't ask to reunite the North! He let you be! And when we needed him most, he came back! With dragons that might I remind you saved us! He has children! And I am a bastard!" Jon yelled loudly. Robb sighed and looked at his wife who only smiled at him.
"Aye, I did all those things, but Jon was the true hero of Winterfell. He brought us back home! Defeated the Bolton's. He should be King! My fathers blood runs through his veins." Robb argued and Jon looked at him in disbelief.
Robb hated being king. He only wanted his wife and children now, not power. He would still be Lord Of Winterfell, but not king.
"You can't expect
Knights of the Vale to side
with wildling invaders." A man uttered and Tormund scoffed.
"We didn't invade.
We were invited." He stated and stood up. Jaehaerys watched the scene unfold in front of them. This was not civilized. Jon was the true king here, what part of that didn't they understand?
"Not by me." The man told Tormund who glared harshly.
"The free folk, the northerners, and the Knights of the Vale fought bravely, fought together,
and we won.
My father used to say
we find our true friends on the battlefield.
The Boltons are defeated.
The war is over.
Winter has come.
If the maesters are right, it'll be
the coldest one in a thousand years.
We should ride home
and wait out the coming storms.
The war is not over.
And I promise you, friend,
the true enemy
won't wait out the storm.
He brings the storm." Jaehaerys was trying to keep up with everyone talking, but the words just kept coming and she was getting overwhelmed trying to listen to the important things. Men were murmuring around her. It was insane to think that they would welcome them back with open arms.
That was until Lady Mormont stood up, and even though she was young, she was fierce.
"Your son was butchered at the Red Wedding, Lord Manderly,
but you refused the call.
You swore allegiance
to House Stark, Lord Glover,
but in their hour
of greatest need,
you refused the call.
And you, Lord Cerwyn,
your father was skinned
alive by Ramsay Bolton.
Still you refused
the call.
But House Mormont
remembers.
The North remembers.
We know no king
but the King in the North
whose name is Stark.
I don't care
if he's a bastard.
Ned Stark's blood
runs through his veins.
He's my king from this day
until his last day." She chanted and Jaehaerys stood up in agreement making Robb and Jon stare at her in shock.
"Lady Mormont
speaks harshly
and truly."
( men murmuring )
"My son died for Robb Stark,
the Young Wolf." Lord Manderly stood up. All eyes were centered on him now.
"I didn't think we'd find
another king in my lifetime.
I didn't commit
my men to your cause
cause I didn't want
more Manderlys dying for nothing.
But I was wrong.
Jon Snow avenged
the Red Wedding." He stated. The room erupted in murmuring. It was hard for Jaehaerys to make out what was being said.
" He is the White Wolf." Manderly finished.
"The King in the North."
Lord Glover stood up next, and Robb smiled as he watched the men stand up for his brother.
"I did not fight
beside you on the field
and I will regret that
until my dying day.
A man can only admit
when he was wrong
and ask forgiveness.
"There's nothing
to forgive, my lord." Jon said.
"There will be
more fights to come.
House Glover will stand
behind House Stark
as we have
for a thousand years." He promised. Chatter erupted once again filling the once quiet room.
"And I will stand
behind Jon Snow...
the King in the North!" He shouted. Robb cheered and slammed his drink down.
"The King in the North!" He roared back. The scene was truly magical. Jaehaerys had never felt more proud than she was in that moment.
" The King in the North!" Everyone was chanting and it seemed they were having a good time, but it was only for a moment. The true war had only just begun.
