Marty
My brothers followed Bailey and me to the rehearsal studio. Bailey set her bag down.
Pat walked over to the record player and pulled out a record. "What kind of crap music is this?"
My brothers and I snickered.
"It's what Adam picked," Bailey said.
"Well, Adam lacks taste. How the hell do the girls flock to him?" Pat asked.
"Beats the hell out of me since Adam isn't Romeo," Rafe said.
"Thank God. One Romeo is enough," Val said.
"Hey! I'm not that bad!" Romeo said.
"Girls paid you for a date. You are that bad," Rafe retorted.
Romeo rolled his eyes.
"Okay, no more lame-ass music." Pat threw the record like a frisbee.
The record glided across the studio, hit the wall, and fell to the ground. Pat opened a bag, pulled out a record, and placed it in the record player.
Val walked over to us. "Marty put your hand up."
I held up my hand.
Val moved Bailey in front of me and placed her hand in mine. He positioned my free hand on her lower back and her other hand on my shoulder. Then he closed my hand over hers. "Rafe, stand behind Marty and make sure he holds his posture."
Rafe nodded, stood behind me, clapped one hand on my shoulder, and his other flat against my back. Val straightened Bailey's posture and held her stance. He gave Pat a nod as Pat started the music. As Val and Rafe moved, we moved. We moved back and forth as we glided around the hardwood floor.
After the song ended, Val stepped in and led Bailey through the dance steps. He twirled her, brought her into his arms, and kept moving. "Keep your eyes on mine. You need to trust your dance partner."
Bailey nodded and let Val lead her. When Val finished, Romeo took over and showed Bailey the cha-cha. When she stepped on his foot, he started over. He twisted her back and forth like a washing machine as she followed his lead.
After practicing that part of the routine repeatedly, Rafe stepped in.
"We're going to do what?" Bailey asked Rafe.
"It's part of the dance routine. It would help if you did a lift," Rafe said.
Bailey's eyes widened. "No way!"
"Why not?"
"You might drop me since we had issues in the past." Bailey rested her hands on her waist and tapped her foot.
"I won't drop you. I'm not Romeo." Rafe scrunched his nose and squinted his eyes in irritation.
"Hey!" Romeo said.
"Look, Rafe won't drop you. Plus, he needs to show Marty, so Marty doesn't drop you," Val said.
"Ugh," Bailey groaned before relenting and letting Rafe perform a lift.
I stood near Bailey and Rafe as Rafe explained how to lift Bailey.
"You want to grasp Bailey's waist and bend at the knees when you lift her." Rafe grasped Bailey's waist and hoisted her into the air but brought her down. He tried again but lowered her to her feet as he repeated the motion.
"We'll need mats, so Bailey doesn't crack her head," Romeo told Val.
We looked at Romeo like he was a dumbass.
