I sat on my bed with my legs curled underneath me with my hair piled into a messy bun. A pencil stuck out of it while I had a pencil in my mouth. I flipped through pages of my textbook and jotted notes down. I heard laughter as my head snapped up to find Marty standing in the doorway.
Marty walked over to my bed and plopped down. "What are you doing?"
I removed the pencil from my mouth and pointed it at him. "Studying, which is what you should do."
"My classes consist of drafting and designing. There's not much studying that needs doing."
"You suck." I sighed.
Marty snickered. "Look at it this way. You'll help stroke victims and give their families peace of mind."
"It's not just college but medical school and interning at a hospital."
"I can say my girl is a doctor." Marty gave me a cheeky grin.
I giggled.
"Okay, why don't I help you?" Marty grabbed my textbook and quizzed me.
I had to admit it was helpful and better than staring at pages upon pages.

ValentineI flipped through a textbook, studying for my license, when my phone rang. "Hello?"
Hey, Val.
"Hey, Odin. What's up?"
Our dads wanted me to coordinate with you about the new office. I guess there's a new client they want us to handle.
"We're not running the new office until after graduation. Why the rush?"
Beats me. The client wants five new homes.
"That seems odd for one client."
That's what I said.
"Yeah, okay." I finished my call with Odin, then called Dad.
The phone rang until Dad answered it. Hey, Val.
"Odin called me. He said you have a client that wants us to handle the building of five houses?"
Yeah, and there's a deadline.
"We haven't even opened the new office yet." I rubbed my forehead in frustration.
Don't worry. The client gave me specifications on the homes. I'm drafting the blueprints.
"It doesn't make any sense." I shook my head in confusion.
After graduation, Owen and I will meet with you and Odin. We have a crew lined up for the new office. Devin is making the cabinets and countertops.
I blew air past my lips. "Fine. Can I get back to studying?"
Yeah.
I ended the call and returned to my textbooks. I needed to pass this test, or I would need to retake it for my license.

EliasAfter hanging up with Val, I sat back in my chair as Owen grinned at me. "Was it necessary for Odin to call
Val?""No, but it's funny as hell." Owen chuckled.
"For you."
Owen laughed louder.
I shook my head and looked at the blueprints.
Owen leaned over and reviewed the designs. "At least the homes aren't a monstrosity like yours was."
