Marty
Friday arrived, and Dad and Owen came to judge the models. The professor had covered the models and only labeled them with numbers. I leaned against the wall with my arms crossed as Kendra smirked.
Dad and Owen removed the covers and studied the models. They picked out details of each model until they reached my model and scrunched their noses.
Kendra stared at the table with models and gasped. I stayed silent.
"Attention, faculty and students," a voice said.
Dad and Owen stopped and looked at each other.
"It has come to our attention a student has been acting unethically. This student tried to seduce another student for a chance at a prestigious construction business."
Dad glanced at me, crossed his arms, and rubbed his face. Owen glimpsed at Dad, then at me. It doesn't take a great genius to figure out who it is.
"Who might you ask? Why don't we provide proof since the person will deny it?"
The flat-screen monitors turned on as text messages appeared with my name covered. Owen's brows lifted, and Dad narrowed his eyes and furrowed his brows. The text messages were scrolled so everyone could read them.
"It seems Kendra enjoys causing issues because she thought she was a shoo-in for an internship. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Naughty, naughty. But then again, what do we expect from a dog. Now for the good part."
Audio queued as Kate and Kendra's voices came on the intercom.
"I can't believe you're doing that," Kate said.
"What does it matter?" Kendra asked.
"But that doesn't sound fair."
"Who cares? Marty Harper's Dad owns the largest construction company in the state. He's a shoo-in for the internship."
"What if his dad doesn't pick your model?"
"It doesn't matter. After Marty and I start dating, his dad will give me a job."
"I thoughts Marty and Bailey had a thing going on?"
"Not anymore."
"What do you mean?"
"I took care of it, so it left Marty available. Plus, who cares about someone's sick parent. My dad is sick. Oh, woe is me. Pft. It's just a ploy to gain sympathy."
"Bailey doesn't strike me as someone asking for sympathy."
"Then you don't know Bailey well. I doubt her dad's even sick. If he's so ill, why is she here and not there?"
Kate didn't answer.
My jaw clenched as my body became rigid. Dad rubbed his face as Kendra shifted in her spot.
"I think we heard enough, don't you?"
The intercom turned off as the screens turned dark. My classmates whispered amongst each other as the professor apologized to my dad and Owen.
Kendra whipped around to me. "I can't believe you would do that to me!"
I narrowed my eyelids to a slit, bore into Kendra, and backed her against the wall. "You're nothing but a snake. You thought you had a chance with me. I'm not my brothers or cousins. I don't care who you are. I will rip your tits off."
Kendra lost her coloring as she quaked in her spot.
"People have proof of your bullshit. The only job you will get is on a street corner, spreading your legs for some sucker. Plus, why would I date someone who's the poster child for an STD."
