The semester got into full swing. I worked on the design for the project while Kendra gave her input. Bailey called when she could but spent most of her time at the hospital. There wasn't any change with her dad, which was a good thing. At least he didn't have another stroke.

I came downstairs for breakfast to find the others eating and joined them.

"How's Bailey?" Rafe asked me.

"She's hanging in there."

"Any news on her dad?" Pat asked.

"He's still the same." I grabbed a couple of waffles and placed them on my plate.

"So, what's up with this chick at school?" Romeo asked.

"Who?" I drizzled syrup over my waffles.

"The girl from your design class."

"Kendra?" I shoved a piece of waffle into my mouth and chewed.

"Yeah."

"She's my partner for the final project I need to do.
Why?"

"She seems sketchy." Romeo squinted his eyes as he ate his breakfast.

"She can seem sketchy. It doesn't mean anything." I shrugged.

"Yeah, I don't trust her," Pat said.

We looked at Pat, who shrugged.

"I second that," Rafe said.

Val didn't say anything but ate his breakfast. The girls glanced at each other.

"Whatever you're thinking, don't. I don't need Bailey worrying about me while dealing with her dad," I told everyone.

"Be careful. You wouldn't want Bailey to doubt your intentions." Reese shot Liam a knowing look.

"Christ! We've established I'm an asshole. Can we drop it?" Liam asked.

"Consider it dropped, you schmuck," Rafe said.

Yeah, I didn't need to rehash history. I would rather focus on school and planning my next date with Bailey.

Marty met me at the library to research different architectures. We wanted our model to stand out from everyone else's. While he went to grab a book, his phone buzzed. I picked it up and hit decline on it, then deleted the missed call. A minute later, he had a voicemail. I deleted that too.

Marty returned with a book and skimmed through it.

"So, who's Bailey?" I asked.

Marty lifted his head. "What?"

"Well, you've been talking to someone named Bailey. Is she important?"

Marty narrowed his eyes. "Why do you want to know?"

"I figure if we're partners, we should learn about each other." I smiled.

"We're partners. It doesn't mean we need to know about our personal life. Can we stick to the project?"

"Sure."

Marty jotted down notes as a plan formulated in my head. The first step was to get Bailey out of the picture.

"Hey, Marty. It's me. I'm in the cafeteria eating before going back to my dad's room. I just needed to hear your voice. Call me." I hung up and sighed.

I wish Marty were here. It would help. I finished eating and returned to my dad's room. The doctors are hoping he wakes up soon. I'm praying he does so we can bring him home.
