Nothing is as it seems

Bailey

When we returned home, I ran upstairs to change out of my wet clothes into some dry clothes. Thank God the water was warm, or falling in would suck.

After changing and making myself presentable, I heard a tap on my bedroom door and answered it to find Marty standing there. I stepped aside and waved him into my bedroom. Once he was inside, I closed the door.

"I know what you'll say before you say it," I mentioned.

Marty crumpled his brows.

"I don't have an eating disorder."

Marty's expression changed to confusion.

"Between my diet and practice, I lost weight."

"But you're so thin."

"It happens when your dance partner makes you practice several hours a day. There were nights I would come home, collapse into bed, and fall asleep while still wearing my clothes."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because you would have driven back to school."

"Well, yeah."

"But I couldn't ruin your summer plans."

"Yeah, you could have."

"Marty, it's not right that I get to pursue my dreams while you forgo yours."

"Bailey, my dad owns the construction company. He would have understood." Marty placed his hands on his waist.

I arched my brow, then gave Marty an annoyed look. "Now, you tell me."

Marty raised his forefinger. "You knew my dad owned a construction company. Why does this surprise you?"

"It's not my fault I got preoccupied."

"How so?"

"Your lips distracted me." I nodded.

"I kissed you one time before I left."

"It was a fantastic kiss."

"That's beside the point."

"How would you know? It's not like you kissed other girls. You didn't kiss other girls, did you?"

"Seriously?" Marty arched his brow.

"A girl needs to know these things."

"No, I didn't kiss other girls." Marty rolled his eyes.

"It's true!" Romeo yelled through the door.

Marty and I glanced at each other.

"We can't help it if numbnuts can't get his shit together!" Rafe said.

"Maybe if he did, we wouldn't be in this mess!" Pat said.

Marty walked to the bedroom door and whipped it open. "Do you mind?"

"No, because we're tired of waiting for you to make a move." Romeo shrugged.

"Valentine!" Marty said.

Val appeared behind Pat, Romeo, and Rafe and dragged them from my bedroom doorway.

Marty closed the door, rolled his eyes, and shook his head. "My brothers are idiots."

I giggled.

Marty strode toward me and stood before me. "What else happened this summer besides that dicklicker trying to put his moves on you."

"Do you want to know?"

"I wouldn't ask if I didn't." Marty shrugged.

I knitted my brows, wondering if I should tell Marty the complete truth.
