Marty
The following morning, Bailey and I got dressed and headed to the dance studio. I followed Bailey to a dance studio where a woman in her mid-forties was instructing young girls.
The woman noticed us near the door and smiled before turning to the students. "Okay, class. Practice the moves I showed you. I'll be right back." The woman strode toward us, ushered us into the hallway, and closed the door.
"Mrs. Shandy, this is Marty," Bailey introduced us.
I held out my hand as Mrs. Shandy shook it.
"It's nice to meet you," Mrs. Shandy said with a warm smile.
"Likewise." I gave her a simple nod.
"I wondered if there's an empty studio available for us to practice in?" Bailey asked Mrs. Shandy.
"If you want to use the room you were using, you're more than welcome to do so."
"What about Adam?"
My jaw tightened as my body tensed.
"Adam Burris is no longer part of the program, and neither is Director Smith," Mrs. Shandy proclaimed.
Bailey's mouth dropped open as she raised her brows. "What?"
"The owners made last-minute changes to the program." Mrs. Shandy beamed.
Bailey stood there, gaping at Mrs. Shandy.
I shook my head. "Sorry. Bailey is at a loss for words. Excuse us. We need to practice."
Before Bailey could utter a word, I grabbed her hand and tugged her away from Mrs. Shandy. I didn't need to explain why those schmucks were no longer here. It's pretty obvious.
It took a few minutes before Bailey found her voice as I checked different rooms and found people practicing.
"What are you doing?"
"Checking to figure out which room is empty."
Bailey rolled her eyes and dragged me down the corridor to a room. I stumbled behind her as she tugged me into an empty room, then released my hand.
"If you wanted to spend time alone, you should have asked."
Bailey rolled her eyes. "We have two weeks to spend alone before the crazies arrive."
I chuckled. Bailey dropped her bag on the hardwood floor and stretched her muscles. I followed suit, so I didn't strain or pull anything. Have you ever pulled a groin muscle? It sucks ass.
"What dance did you plan for the showcase?" I rolled my arms in circles to loosen the muscles.
"Adam wanted to perform this elegant ballroom dance complete with these fancy costumes." Bailey contorted her face in disgust and stuck her tongue out.
I chuckled.
"I wanted to do something fun, but nooooo." Bailey got into a macho stance and puffed out her chest. "If you want to win, you perform a boring-ass ballroom dance."
I roared with laughter as Bailey imitated Adam.
"I'll give Adam boring that dickless wonder." Bailey strutted around the dance floor. "Look at me. I'm so hot that the girls drop their panties for me. Yeah, right." Bailey scoffed.
"Before we start, what happened between you and Adam?"
Bailey heaved a sigh. "We were practicing one evening when Adam kissed me."
I knitted my brows together as my heart pounded in my chest.
"But I pushed Adam away and told him we should remain professional. Then he kept asking me if I wanted to hang out or have dinner with him. I declined his offers."
