Chapter 39: Playing Detective

Natasha's POV

"So, is Elyse coming?" I asked Valerian.

For the past hours, I tried so hard to avert my attention from worrying and thinking too much about Sayna. I could not do anything right now but find out what's the reason why Sayna can't track me because if Sayna could not track me, does it mean that anyone from my pack could not too? If so, why?

I want to know. Badly.

And for now, I can only think of one way to be close to the truth.

Hanging out with Elyse in these times will not only clear my mind. I can maybe dig up some information too.

Valerian just nodded at me.

I smiled. Not a forced one this time.

Valerian wasn't lying because not a long time had passed before Elyse arrived in his office.

"Natasha!" she exclaimed enthusiastically.

As usual, this girl has a lot of energy. She just really never runs out of enthusiasm.

"Hi," I greeted back with a smile, feeling a little bit better now.

Seeing Elyse calms my thoughts down. Probably because of her energy and maybe because she reminds me so much of Sayna.

They are both a ball of sunshine that lights up everyone's world.

I really hope Sayna is home and safe.

"I've missed you," Elyse said as she sat down beside me and clung in my arms. "Gosh, it feels like we didn't see each other for years."

I chuckled.

It's been only a couple of days since we last saw each other.

"I've missed you too," I replied.

"Okay, let's go!" Elyse suddenly stood up and since she was almost hugging my whole arms, I was forced to stand up with her too.

"Where are you going?" Valerian immediately asked.

What Elyse just said was like an alarm to him, waking his whole system up.

"Going out, duh?" Elyse rolled her eyes at him. "Why did you even call me here if me and Natasha won't hang out?"

"Yeah, I will be back immediately," I chimed in, looking directly at Valerian.

I made sure to say something already before Valerian will act like a jerk and stopped us from going out.

I really need to get away from him right now and I can really use this time to talk to Elyse about something.

It was the main reason why I requested her here.

"Oh, come on, I will give Natasha back all intact, still completed." Elyse laughed.

Valerian just nodded and signaled us to go.

Elyse didn't let go of my arm as we walked to the door. I noticed how she was being so careful not to touch my palm.

'Be careful'

I felt like my heart just did a somersault when Valerian suddenly spoke in my mind before me and Elyse was completely out of the door.

I deeply closed my eyes and tried my best to not show any reaction and just ignore it.

Damn it, Valerian.

"So, what do you think?" I heard Elyse speak.

But I guess that I was too caught up with what Valerian just said and did that I didn't know what she was talking about. I didn't even notice that we were already in front of the elevator waiting for it to open.
