Stephen walked down the hall carrying Ella like she weighed nothing, her legs dangling in front of him almost touching the floor.

"I missed you!" Stephen exclaimed.

"It wasn't even two days! Were you worried you were gonna miss the best holiday of the year?" Ella laughed at her best friend of over five years.

"Your birthday is not a holiday Ells"

"It's a holiday to me!" She laughed

Stephen went to roll his eyes at her but they were interrupted by the sound of a clearing throat.
Stephen looked around Ella's body and was met with Taylor, Stephen's girlfriend.
Stephen awkwardly put Ella down already knowing there was gonna be an issue they would fight about later.

"So...were you gonna tell me you were back?" She asked annoyance obvious in the tone of her voice.

Ella stood there awkwardly.
She felt it was a private moment for the couple but she also didn't want to leave her best friend's side after he had just gotten back from a college basketball trip.
"Yea when I saw you"

"Right" she stood in front of him awkwardly.
Ella decided to speak up breaking the awkward silence.
"I think I'm gonna head to class"

"Happy birthday Ella"

"Thank you!" She said giving her a big cheesy smile which made Stephen mirror it.

Taylor gave her a little smile and nodded before looking back at Stephen.
He put her hand on her back almost guiding her as she walked past him, it wasn't anything too weird just something he did when she walked away.

"When did you get back in town?"

"Last night at like 10 or something"

Taylor walked over and wrapped her arms around his waist hugging him, he put an arm around her shoulder giving her a small grin, she was enjoying the moment with her boyfriend of a few months before he would go to class with Ella and she went alone.

"So you just went to bed when you got home?" She laughed at the idea of this young basketball star going to bed at the time of a child.

He shared a chuckle knowing what she was getting at.
"Ha no I went over to Ellas for a little bit"

Taylor stiffened in his arm the idea putting her off slightly.
"Oh... why?"

"Ella made chicken and waffles and her parents never came home last night so she was all alone... and I love chicken and waffles" he joked.

"Well that was nice of you"
She paused for a second "her parents don't get mad that you go to her house when they aren't there"

"How would they know they don't talk to her. They have to know idea what goes on in that house when they aren't there"

Taylor only looked at him letting her mind wander to what he was implying.

"Get your head out of the gutter! I'm a taken man" he said pushing her head.

"Hey you're the one who made it sound inappropriate" Taylor retorted.

"I can just add her to the list of parents who don't know I exist"

"I know I know!"
