Mental break TW⚠️

I sat next to the hospital bed holding the hand of my girlfriend, she had just attempted suicide after suffering two years with depression.
She tried to cut her wrist open in the bathroom while I was at basketball practice, I came home to her laying on the floor covered in blood, I called 911 and the doctors saved her just in time.

I don't know what I would do without Aya she's my world, shes never missed a home game, my parents love her, she gets along with my siblings, she's understanding of my crazy job, and through all that, she stuck around.
I know she was going through a lot, just about every comment on her Instagram, and Twitter is hate about her body or personality, and what kills me the most is these people don't even know her.
They don't know the way she loves to hold babies, the way she gets so excited about Christmas movies, how she loves every animal.
She has such a pure heart and gets nothing but hate it just isn't fair.

While I sat there admiring her natural beauty she started to stir a bit.

"Hi baby," I said softly.

"Hi Bubs"

"How are you feeling?"

"Not my best... Stephen, I'm sorry for what happened..." the guilt in her face made me want to cry.

"This isn't your fault, you were hurting."

"But I hurt you"

"Hey, as long as you are okay I don't care what happened."

She just looked at me like she was at a loss for words.

After awhile in the hospital, Aya could finally come home and I was so excited, as I walked through the familiar doors of our home things felt like they were finally getting back to normal, yes there were still some issues and something about Aya still didn't feel right we were on the right track.
My parents were dropping off food so we didn't have to worry about cooking or finding something I could just focus on Aya and her health.

We weren't home too long before they got here, they had quite a bit of food and they didn't really seem themselves either, which I understand this was definitely a traumatic experience for everybody but I want to just focus on the fact that Aya is here and healthy.

"Hey, Steph how are you feeling?"

"I'm just happy to finally be home"

we all sat down at the table except for Aya who was in our room asleep, she was on all sorts of medication so she was pretty tired, she told me not to wake her up because she wasn't really hungry so I didn't.
After a couple of minutes of silence, my mother broke it.

"Hunny I think you should consider seeing a therapist or getting some help..."

"Why would I need to get help I'm fine"

"You don't look fine, you aren't handling this as great as you think you are"

"Mom I'm fine as long as Aya is fine everything is gonna be okay"

"Stephen that's the point-"

"I'm fine mom! I'm not gonna sit here and worry about this right now. The love of my life is okay and that's all that matters"
