Althea
—————

I have just moved to a small town in Washington state to live with my step-brother, Isaac, and step-father, Christian, called forks. Nothing extraordinary about the town. Very rainy. Few people. Quiet, to an extent. It had a beautiful forest though. That's something good to look forward to, hopefully.

For the past year, I have lived in Saint-Tropez, France with my mother. We've lived in a few places to be fair. We lived in Honfleur for 7 years, La Rochelle for 4 years, Pittsburg for 2 years, Paris for 1 year, Port Angeles for 2 years and then we had to move back to France to sort out our permanent Visas, which were finally accepted.

That's why I'm now finally moving back with Isaac and Christian. I should be more excited, but I'm not. Not because of them though, because of my mother.

"Thea, for the love of God." Isaac ran his hands down his face as he took a deep breath and looked at me. I was just minding my own business, sitting at my desk writing in one of my journals. "Put down the pen and let's go. You're going to be late for your meeting with the principal at Forks high school."

I didn't satisfy him with an immediate response because I simply didn't feel like it.

"It takes us exactly 12 minutes to drive there. 26 if there's traffic, which there's not. The meeting doesn't start for another 50 minutes, and when we get there, we'll be waiting for 5-15 minutes on top of that anyway, so rushing around like a headless chicken is a completely unnecessary act." I spoke. He hated it when I did this. I have always had calculated, structured thoughts and had excellent time management skills. I create a mental routine every morning so that I don't miss out on a single thing that needs to be done.

My brother's thoughts on the other hand were far from structured. It was like a messy room. He knows what needs to be done, he knows when everything needs to be done, but there's zero structure to it and things are easily forgotten.

"Althea, please just get up or I'm going to drag you out of that chair myself." He huffed in frustration. Now I finally gave him a glance before placing my pen down.

"If you attempt to pull me off this chair, you'll lose the hands you used to do it." I said sharply, which received an eye roll from my brother.

I know I could make this easier for him by listening, but where's the fun in that? I'm the younger of the two of us, so it's basically my job to make his life miserable. Especially since he likes to scare off any and every guy and girl that shows interest in me. I don't mind it because I'm far from a people person, and I've had exclusively bad relationships with both genders, but I'm stubborn, so I make his life more difficult for my own amusement. It's only logical.

"Cesser d'être ennuyeux, car nous allons être en retard." I looked at him with pure irritation. To translate, he told me to stop being annoying because we will be late.

Canadian people are supposed to be nice. Why is Isaac such an arse? Oh right, me. Still an arse for using French to get me to listen.

"Mature," I rolled my eyes as I stood up, flicking him a glare as I grabbed my jacket off the coat hanger by my door.

"You weren't listening when I spoke English, so I had to speak french. Totally your fault." Isaac held his hands up in defence as I purposely pushed his shoulder while passing by him.

I more often than not, listen to what people say if they speak french, because my mother practically conditioned me to listen when I heard her speak in french. She spoke English more than she spoke French because of Christian and Isaac, but when she was angry, she'd switch and she'd speak exclusively French until she calmed down. Angry French mothers are scarier than you'd think.

I could quite easily just not listen if someone spoke French since I'm aware of the connection that created the condition, but it's like my own strange way of remembering my mother.

a/n: a new introduction to my character. I feel changing the story to first person will give a much more interesting and in depth sight into Althea's thoughts and personality.

I will also be writing some chapters with Jasper's PoV so that you can also see into Jaspers thoughts and personality, which change because of the direction I want this story to go.

For those of you that read my previous version of the story, will see just based on this chapter that I'm changing up quite a bit, but I promise that it is for the better.
