Practice didn't end until nearly eight and so Harper proposed we all go out for dinner. I agreed because my stomach was louder than my singing at this point.
So we all piled into Harper's truck, girls in the front, boys in the back, and sped to a place called Cheese Man's. Harper said it was the best pizza in town and I wasn't officially an Edwardian without eating there. And while I would have called her exaggeration, I couldn't because the instant we walked in, I was hit with the smell of cheesy grease and I melted a little inside.
We all piled into a booth and I looked at the paper menu that I had grabbed from the front. The other three must have come here often enough to know what they wanted without a menu.
"They come by the slice, but don't be deceived. Each piece is as big as your face," Greyson warned from where he sat to my right.
I raised my eyebrows. "So I only need five then?"
Greyson laughed and I couldn't help smiling with a little accomplishment.
I was feeling classic and decided on going with the regular pepperoni. Harper explained that her favorite was The Johnny Jack, named after the owner of the very first Cheese Man's, which was deep dish and had every topping you could imagine. Greyson was getting the Margarita pizza which was the iconic sauce, mozzarella, and basil combination, while Sean got the Fettucini on Dough which had pasta, chicken, and spinach with alfredo sauce instead of the marinara. At this point I was so hungry all of them sounded like heaven to my mouth.
Our orders came out fast and piping hot and when mine was set down in front of me, I realized that it really was the size of my face. "How do I even approach this?" I asked the group.
"Like a caveman." Greyson, in example, picked it up with his hands and shoved it into his mouth, covering his cheeks with sauce. He yelped around his mouthful as he dropped his pizza back on the plate. "Hot," he breathed.
"If you used a fork, maybe you wouldn't burn yourself," Harper suggested. She rolled her eyes and handed me a plastic fork with an exasperated grin.
"Thanks." Using the fork to cut off the point of the piece of pizza, I shoved the giant bite into my mouth. I nearly groaned at how good it was. Who knew a pile of grease, meat, and cheese could be this glorious?
As I chewed, I felt my phone buzz from my pocket and I fished it out. I'm free! Jordan's text said.
I stopped chewing. I missed your release?
Don't worry. There wasn't exactly a whole bunch of fanfare ;)
Deciding that it wasn't important if I was there, just that he was out, I quickly texted, Want to join us for pizza at Cheese Man's?
Already omw.
Ten minutes later, the bell chimed Jordan's arrival. He scanned the dining room until he found our table and he walked over with a wide smile.
I stood and wiped my mouth of grease. "Hey."
"Hey. Am I barging in?"
"No, silly. I invited you." I gave him a quick hug before turning to the gang. "Jordan, these are my bandmates, Harper, Sean, and Greyson. Guys, this is Jordan, my, uh..." I faded out, not exactly knowing what to call him since we were dating but I didn't know if we were girlfriend, boyfriend status yet. We hadn't really talked about it.
"Nice to meet you, Jordan," Harper recovered for me smoothly. "Glad to finally meet you. I've heard a lot about you."
Jordan smirked and glanced at me. "Have you, now?"
