My heart was pounding almost painfully hard in my chest as I walked towards Steve. The setting sun was turning the sky a beautiful shade of pink. On any other day I would've said it was a beautiful sight.
We were outside the compound, heading through the tree line to head towards the lake that sat hidden behind it. We reached the wooden platform that allowed us to walk over the water, the slight chill in the air caused goosebumps to trail over my skin.
I couldn't look at Steve, I wanted nothing more than to look into the eyes of the man I loved; but it was too hard, too much for my heart to take.
"Rain." Steve called my name gently, trying to get me to turn around.
I stayed looking over the water. "I don't know what you want me to say Steve."
He came up beside me, his warm hands gripping onto my arms as he turned me to him.
"I want you to tell me that you want this as much as I do."That caught my attention, my eyes stinging with unshed tears as I looked up at him.
"After everything? That's what you think this is?"
How could he be so wrong?
"I don't know Rain! You won't talk to me!" He raised his voice, something he'd done plenty of times before. This time was different, this time it hurt.
I forced his hands off me, unable to see the anger on his face. Turning away from him I let the tears fall freely.
"I love you!" I cried out, my heart breaking as I spun round to face him. "I love you more than anything or anyone in the entire world. But you can't say the same.""Yes I can!" Steve snapped, throwing his hands up in frustration. "You want to know what I saw? I saw Peggy tell me I was stuck in a world without you!"
"W-what?" I stuttered out.
Both of us had silent tears streaming down our faces as we stared at each other. The tension rising with every breath.
Steve sighed, shaking his head as he walked towards me. He put his hands on either side of my face, wiping the tears away with his thumbs.
"There's no one that comes close to you Rain. There never has been."
My heart suddenly felt lighter, like it was able to beat again.
"Steve..." I didn't know what to say, I'd been so wrong. We'd wasted so much time being angry when we should've been together.
He rested his forehead against mine, his cologne filling me with a sense of comfort.
"Now can you stop being so stubborn and come back to me?"Without missing a beat I crashed my lips against his, wrapping my hands around his neck. He lifted me up to wrap my legs around his waist. It always surprised me how easily he could hold me like that, whilst I wasn't big, I wasn't stick thin either. Our tongues danced against each other's, his taste a direct line to my core.
It wasn't until he moaned into my mouth that I realised I was rubbing myself against him.
"Sweetheart, you keep doing that and I'll take you right here." He warned before grazing his teeth over the sensitive spot on my neck.
"And is that supposed to stop me Vanilla?" I teased, rolling my hips over him again.
His eyes darkened as his lips twitched at the corner. He didn't say anything as he slowly set me on my feet. Turning me so my back was against his chest, his hand gripped at my throat.
"What did I tell you about calling me that?" He growled with his lips next to my ear.
"I can't seem to remember." I breathed out against the pressure he was applying.
