Beyond the Western Gate

I can't write poems

Like the young girls do.

Filled with dreams of romance.

And love that is true.

I am just older now.

I've seen too much of life.

Some of it wonderous.

Other times filled with strife.

I write to tell a story.

Sometimes with a dash of rhyme

Often, they sit uncompleted.

Waiting for a future time.

Sometimes the words pour out.

Fill the paper with heartfelt pain.

Much too sensitive and personal

To have others wonder if I'm sane.

Tonight, I am a bit melancholy.

Pondering that future date.

Wondering what I'll find.

Beyond the Western Gate.
