The weather was getting colder and wetter, the nights darker, but no amount of mud, wind, or rain could stop August from her gardening. She was getting so close to the perfect harvest of wolfsbane. Of course, George just dressed warmer, and mastered his Umbrella spell with his wand, so he could still sit with her.

Until eventually Oliver Wood, a 7th year Gryffindor and the quidditch team captain started private training sessions for the team, three evenings a week. And George was too busy to sit with her in her garden.

"I see that your shadow isn't here today." Professor Lupin stated, sitting down in George's usual chair.

"He's at practice." August smiled, looking up from her flowerbed

"How are you doing, August?" He asked

"Fine." She said; when she looks at her professor she thinks of that night after the full moon. She regrets not knocking on his door.

Lupin smiles, softly. "That's good to hear. Anyways, I don't want to take up anymore of your time. I understand you spend a lot of your free time in the garden."

"I don't mind the company."

"Good to know." Lupin chuckles, "It's nice out here," he looks around, "I can see why Mr. Weasley sits with you."

August smiles

"But anyways, a few weeks ago a handful of essays fell onto my desk,"

August looked up, knowing which essay it was and that she didn't even try to write it.

"Quite interesting really, since I did not assign them." He chuckled, "But I noticed your name was missing from the pile."

"I'm so sorry, Professor. I will take the troll mark. You can fail me on it."

Lupin laughs again, "August, no need to worry. I threw all of them away after I read the first one."

August looked hopeful.

"I don't really believe in teaching that." Lupin said, "Or reading it, for that matter."

"You don't think..." she tries not to look in his eyes, "werewolves deserve to die?"

"I don't." He said simply, he watches August carefully as she looks down at her flowers again, playing with the dirt to look busy. "I think people forget that werewolves are actual victims"

August stopped playing with the dirt and looked up at her professor.

"Professor?" She sat up on her knees, "Would you care if one of your students was a werewolf?"

He looked at her, ready for her to say it. But she doesn't, so he just counteracted her question with, "Would you care if one of your professors was a werewolf?"

"If they knew what they were teaching," she shrugged, "then it really wouldn't matter who they were.." She giggled, "They would probably still be nicer than Professor Snape."

Lupin's eyes lit up, and a smile grew wide on his face. Nodding, he says, "I don't think I am allowed to speak more on that, about my fellow colleague."

August giggled into her hands, "Right on." She said.

"But to answer your question August, no I would not care one bit. I'd let them know they were always welcomed in my classroom, during lessons or after." Lupin said, getting up from the chair, "Don't stay out here too long, you'll catch a cold." He joked, walking off.

August wasn't sure if he caught on to her question, she hoped he did. It would be much easier than telling him herself. But, nonetheless, she found another professor she felt safe with.
