Hermione was alone the morning after the full moon. She looked up from her breakfast with an anxious face, but when she saw August her face relaxed for a second before she saw the new scar on August's face. August painfully groaned when she sat next to Hermione.
"I might have forgotten to take my potions the last few days..." August admitted, "Not a good night."
Hermione's eyes wandered around August's face. There was a dark scratch down her right eye, on top of the dark bags that lingered under them.
"I'm worried about them too." Hermione sighed. "Have you heard anything yet?"
"Uh," August reached across the table for the carafe of coffee, when Hermione noticed some red seeping through her shirt under her arm, "haven't heard anything yet."
"You're bleeding," Hermione said. August lifted her arm up and saw that her wound opened again.
"Dammit." August scoffed, grabbing her side and getting up. "I should go see Poppy again."
Hermione quickly got up and helped her off the bench, "I'll come with you."
"You don't have to." August smiled, "I'm fine serious."
"I'm not," Hermione said.
"What I do know, is Arthur is fine," August reassured her, as Hermione wrapped her arm around August and helped her back to the hospital wing. "I would ask you if we could keep this our little secret, but I can't really hide these scars on Monday."
"Did you see Fred that night?" Hermione asked, not looking August in the eyes. "When Harry told you what happened? Did he seem okay?"
"I didn't see him..." August sighed, "George was staying in my dorm when Harry came to my room. And McGonagall sent me back to my room, she wouldn't let me see anyone."
"Oh..." Hermione sighed, "I would have come last night." Hermione told her, "But it was too late, I didn't know they all left until halfway through the day. I would have been there for you."
"It's okay," August murmured, "McGonagall stayed with me last night, and she helped me this morning." August groaned as she took a step up the stairs.
"Is it hard being away from him now?" Hermione asked, "After the connection?"
August scoffed a laugh, "You know?"
"Ever since I found out about you, I read up on as many books on werewolves... They say after a connection is made, you almost share a soul with the other. You can feel each other."
"I feel fear." August admitted, "And, I don't think it's my fear."
"I think it romantic." Hermione smiled, "You two are soul mates."
"Do you think we still would be if I wasn't a werewolf?"
"I do." Hermione looked at her confused, "Do you?"
"I hope." August smiled over at the girl, "I know we are meant to be, and I know now it was us that brought us together, but I still think-"
"That you forced him to love you?"
"I don't know..."
"I do know." Hermione smiled, "I've read a lot." August laughed, "You two were always destined for each other... The connection just binds you as one, that's the only difference. It was all George who fell in love with you. I noticed the first time I met you two."
"You are a hopeless romantic, Hermione Granger."
"I blame you." Hermione laughed, "You made me read all your romance novels."
