Never, in anyone's memory, had a match approached in such a highly charged atmosphere. By the time the holidays were over, the tension between the two teams and their houses was at breaking- point. Several small scuffles broke out in the corridors, culminating in a nasty incident in which an August O'Keefe and a Cassius Warrington ended up in the hospital wing with leeks sprouting out of their ears.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" Cassius hissed from the bed across from her.
"You just had to go there." August hissed back, her arms crossed.
"Oh, it was just to get him wound up! You don't understand!"
"You're terrible." August groaned, looking away at him.
"All I did was trip Harry! I didn't use an unforgivable on him!" Cassius sat up, "I'm pretty sure I've watched you do the same thing to him!"
"It's different." August sighed, "He is family. You." She huffed, "You did it to embarrass him!"
"Oh, grow a pair Moon!" Cassius laughed, "It was a joke, Gryffindors are messing with Slytherins too!"
August scuffed, putting her nose in the air.
"Mooooon." Cassius hummed across the hospital bay, "We were doing better, we were friends again."
August didn't say anything.
"Me and you shared a sweet moment at Three Broomsticks last weekend. Even your Georgie boy thought it was cute." He put his finger up across his top lip to mimic the foam mustaches they got from their butter beers. August tried to fight the smile forming on her face.
"I'm sorry... Okay? Is that what you want me to say?" Cassius asked, "I'm sorry Moon that I tripped your little twerp of a brother Harry."
"Thank you." August finally looked at him, "I guess I forgive you."
"Will I get a shout-out at the game?"
"A shoutout?" August snorted, "What are you on about?"
"Aren't you and Lee the new commentator duo?" He asked
"I mean, it was just one game. This is the big match, I doubt anyone wants me up there. I know nothing about the sport really."
"It's still funny." Cassius laughed, "Also, Lee is already telling everyone you're speaking."
"He is not?!"
"He is." Cassius laughed.
Madam Pomfrey fixed the pair up and sent Cassius on his way. August had to sit in Madam Pomfrey's office for about an hour as she scolded the girl for hexing another student. Especially being 10 days out from the next full moon. It could have been the moon speaking when August's temper rose when she watched Cass trip Harry in the Great Hall that morning. But there sure was a sense of pride, when the hex hit him. She of course did not see him counteract it, causing her hex to hit her as well.
All usual pursuits were abandoned in the Gryffindor common room the night before the match. Even Hermione had put down her books. August did not. She wasn't particularly studying for a class, but she sure was having a good time with Mr. Darcy.
"I can't work, I can't concentrate," Hermione said nervously. "How are you so calm?"
"Mr. Darcy." August smirked at Hermione, who blushed and nodded.
Oliver Wood was crouched over a model of a Quidditch pitch in the corner, prodding little figures across it with his wand and muttering to himself. George and Fred couldn't help but laugh when one of the little figurines would fly away from him and then notice August with a book in one hand and her wand in her other pointed at him.
