Jasper was gone when I woke up the next morning. I headed to breakfast, unsure what from the night before had been a dream and what hadn't. My stomach growled loudly. The rations were thinning even more, leaving us with hardly anything to eat.
Jasper slid into the chair next to me, grinning. "Octavia said yes. The next step is finding someone to officiate."
So, it wasn't a dream. "Not Jaha," I said immediately.
"Obviously," He scoffed. "I'd never let that asshole be a part of our wedding. I can't stop him from going, though. Octavia says we should make it a public reception to bring spirits up. Not that there's any food or drinks down here."
"Well, we sure do know how to throw a party," I grinned. But not really without drugs. We'd make do.
"The ceremony itself will be small, then basically signing some papers in the office, but I'll make sure it's perfect for you."
I kissed him. "Of course it will be perfect. Can Kane officiate?" Jasper agreed, so once I finished eating I got up to find Kane. He was sitting at a table with Abby and the other necessary personnel.
"Excuse me, Kane?" I said, standing awkwardly behind him. He turned around quickly, then smiled.
"Miss Morgan! What can I do for you?"
There wasn't a way to really ease into it. "Can you officiate weddings? Like, are you licensed... or whatever?" I cursed myself immediately. It wasn't like there was a better way to phrase it.
Miller's jaw dropped, and he hit Jackson's arm to draw his attention to the conversation. "Why?" Jackson asked, smirking. He knew why.
"You're fucking kidding!" Miller exclaimed, far too loudly. A few heads turned towards us. I shot a glare at Miller, but turned back to Kane for his response.
"I think you'd have better luck with Thelonius. He was the leader of our people, or at least when you two met, if I'm not mistaken on why you're asking."
I scowled. "We don't want him to do it. If you'll allow me to say it, I'd rather have killing Jaha as part of the reception." Kane gave me a stern look. "Kidding! Obviously." I winked at Miller. Totally not kidding. I turned back to Kane. "We want you or Abby to do it, or no one."
Kane sighed. "I'm flattered, but it still stands that I'm not the Chancellor anymore and I don't think I'm qualified to."
"Well, Marcus Kane, you know better than most that neither me nor Jasper really care about legality."
Miller let out a snort. "Good one," He muttered, smirking.
Kane looked uncomfortable, clearly not happy about the reminder of his days of locking up children. "You could ask Indra, perhaps. But I think Thelonius is the only Sky Person who can help you."
Abby had been watching with a smile on her face. "You're wrong, Marcus. You may not be a politician anymore, but it holds up." She leaned in towards Kane and whispered, "Plus, the real marriage happens with the certificate. Even if you aren't licensed, the kids want you to do it."
He hesitated, then smiled. "Of course I will, Miss Morgan. Let me know when and I'll be ready."
I grinned, and shook his hand. "Of course, sir."
I sat down next to Miller.
"I can't believe you're going to be a wife." He said, smirking.
"Don't say it like that, it makes me sound old," I pushed his shoulder.
"Will you be a mother, too?" He gasped, lowering his voice. "Are you a mother?"
"I'm not pregnant, Miller."
