"Elise Romano, protector of the pack. Your time will come. Your equal is near. Love shall come," The black wolf told me.
"Aunt Talia, how will I know when I am ready?" I asked.
"You will know where to find him. He is the key to everything."
"Who is this person? What's his name?"
"His name is-"
Talia left abruptly in the golden light.
I woke up to my alarm blaring and got dressed. I didn't know who this mystery guy was but I needed to find out.
If he was the one to help me unlock my powers and save people then I needed to start a search. I had decided against telling everyone because I didn't need news to spread that I was looking for this soulmate person.
I got dressed and ate some reheated leftovers. I left my mom a note and Lydia texted me saying she was coming to pick me up.
It was like 8 in the morning but my mom had the night shift tonight.
A car horn honked outside and I looked out to see Lydia in her blue car. I grinned and walked outside. I got in her car and saw Allison in the back seat.
"She's hung over," Lydia said. "You missed an awesome party. Jackson said you left with Isaac and thought you were coming over." She drove off towards the mall.
"Yeah, sorry. My mom said it was really late and I was super tired too," I lied.
"It was only me, Jackson, Danny, Allison and Greenburg. Jackson's parents were home but who knows what they were doing upstairs. We watched Rocky, again. Jackson always says it's such a good movie," Lydia rolled her eyes.
Lydia pulled out of the driveway and we headed towards the shopping center near the city.
"Full makeover, Elise. That's what we'll do. Then when Stiles sees you, he'll drop dead on the floor," Lydia clapped her hands excitedly when we were stopped at a red light.
I started to defend myself. "Stiles and I are-"
"Just friends?" Allison finished. "No way, Elise. He looks at you as if you created life itself. Like you're Aphrodite or something."
I thought about it for a moment. He does compliment me and spend a lot of time with me when Isaac isn't around. "I guess you could say he's a really good friend."
"Oh honey, his world revolves around you now. Before you arrived, I thought he would be just another somebody in the halls. But now, he sees you and just lights up. Stiles has never done that for anyone else, believe me, " Lydia added as we pulled into the parking lot.
I thought about the comment about the goddess of beauty. Did his kindness towards me come from my powers? Was I just imagining everything?
We went shopping for at least three hours. Lydia convinced me to pay for my clothes, which was exactly one dress and a cute top.
I didn't particularly like shopping, especially when it came to shopping with friends.
We left around noon and Lydia dropped me off at my house after we got some lunch.
I walked in and closed the door. The kitchen was calling to me. I wanted to make something for Stiles, to thank him for putting up with me and helping me with the research.
Cookies. Stiles did have a sweet tooth. I was stuck on chocolate chip or rainbow sprinkles so I decided to make both.
"You're having a lot of fun today," A voice said from behind me.
I immediately turned around and saw Derek sitting at the table behind me.
"What the hell? When did you get here?" I asked.
"First of all, stop glowing. Second of all, I was already in your house for the past hour," Derek said softly.
I turned toward the window and saw myself absolutely lit up like a christmas tree.
"Sorry. But next time, just ask for a key. Don't break and enter please. I could have killed you," I said.
"You're holding a whisk," Derek rolled his eyes.
"A deadly whisk," I said defensively.
"Who're you baking for?" He asked.
"Why do you care? You haven't been around for a while since you got out," I replied coolly, continuing to make my cookies. I preheated the oven and then scraped down the sides of the bowl.
"I've been busy," He started. "Elise, this alpha, he takes no prisoners, he kills. There's too many victims and not enough of us for a fight. You can't control when you light up, Scott can't help his urges and any other person worth a fighting chance won't agree to help me," Derek ranted.
"Maybe we need to bait him. Give him what he wants," I offered.
"What he wants is for Scott to join his pack. And I don't want that to happen. Each pack member gives him more strength. Strength I don't need against me."
I got out a baking sheet and put the cookie blobs on it, not caring about the shapes or proportions.
"Why can't we make our own pack? We could get people to join and fight against him," I offered.
"You need an alpha to start a pack, Elise. We don't have an alpha. There are two ways you become an alpha. One is to kill another alpha, the other is being a true alpha, someone who is a natural born leader that puts themselves in harms way before others. And we have neither. This new alpha killed my sister. My sister was the alpha, now he's the alpha through a transfer of power."
I blinked at Derek. Too much lore in a short amount of time.
"Why can't we find a true alpha? Or kill another alpha to become an alpha?" I asked.
"That's not how it works," Derek sighed.
I popped the cookie tray in the oven and set a timer.
"Maybe you need more time in jail to rethink how we can solve this problem. Because as far as I'm concerned, this is impossible without an actual alpha. And it is only going to put more people in danger. I could help but only if I knew what I was doing."
"Look, I love your admiration to help, I really do. But at the end of the day, you're basically a baby. You are fresh out of the womb with new powers, powers that have put you severe harm," Derek explained. "Do you even know how much power you could give to the alpha if you sided with him? You would advance his abilities tenfold. Enough to make Beacon Hills his own kingdom."
I stood in silence. Derek was kind of seething with anger. A halo above his head flickered like fire, from red to orange to yellow. He was scared.
I didn't say anything, I just couldn't. I mean, for the most part he was right. I still didn't know what I was capable of.
And it would hurt my friends.
I didn't need Scott, Isaac or Stiles getting badly injured because I wanted to help be a hero.
(a/n: sorry for being on hiatus for 2 years lmao. here is a funky fun & fresh chapter for you to read :) i hope you enjoy)
