"I- I really don't want to talk about it Isaac," I said as I avoided his gaze.
"I know you don't know me but nobody just starts crying out of nowhere," Isaac argues.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," I sighed. "You might even think I'm a little bit crazy."
"Try crazy on me. You've heard about my dad which I've never told anyone before. I bet this is something personal," Isaac sighed.
I really considered kicking him out of my room until I could process for myself but I knew I had to tell somebody. It was going to destroy me mentally if nobody knew what was happening.
"I see things," I whispered, barely audible.
"Like things that aren't real?" He looks at me concerned.
"I don't know. Ever since I've gotten here, weird things have happened to me and I just don't really know how to feel about it," I said, feeling my heart rate increase. "Please don't say anything. I promise I'm not crazy."
"Try and explain it to me. Best detail possible and I will help you."
I looked at Isaac like he had just miraculously grown three heads.
"So you're not going to sacrifice me like I'm some crazy person?" I asked him incredulously.
"I have a few free periods this year, I have time for that if need be," He winked.
"Okay then, it all started about the second or third day I was here. I had just met Scott Mccall that day and I had some weird dreams. There was like this wolf thing talking about me being a protector or something. I don't know, it was really crazy. Then when I was in the Coaches room everyone had a bunch of different colored halos around their heads. Super freaky. And in lunch today, Matt you know the creepy guy, he had a black halo around his head and it made me just feel super empty inside and I didn't even realize I was crying. I think that's it," I sighed, untangling my hair with my fingers.
Next to me, Isaac was furiously writing on a piece of paper. "Is that all?" He said when he was done. He stretched his fingers.
"Yeah, I think so. Wait, give me your phone for a second," Isaac handed his phone to me, and I took a selfie, making that my contact picture. "I firmly believe everyone should have a contact photo. My dads contact photo was just a blurry and cropped poop emoji."
Isaac took back his phone and smiled at me before checking the time.
"Oh god, my dad comes home in less than five minutes. I have to go," Isaac said with a frantic look in his eyes.
I hopped off the bed and ran down the stairs with Isaac. When I got to the bottom, I felt myself trip and braced for the impact of the floor.
"Holy crap Elise," Isaac said. I opened my eyes slightly to see my face inches from the floor.
I was levitating. Quite literally.
I looked up at Isaac and my whole body stood back up.
My feet touched the ground and I could feel myself visibly shaking.
"Did I do that?" I looked at him and down at the floor where I was seconds ago.
"You did that," He said.
"Are you scared of me?" I asked as I took a step towards him.
"I've only known you for a few days but I couldn't be scared of you. You're very short and see things that aren't there. I'd consider that a disadvantage on your part," He grinned as he grabbed his stuff.
"Want me to walk you home?" I asked.
"I'm planning on sprinting but if you're up to it sure," He said as he opened the front door.
"I really don't want to be alone. Besides, It's only like two streets away. Race you?" I grin.
"Oh, you're on," Isaac gives a mischievous smile and we step outside. I locked the door and we walked to the end of the driveway.
"Ready, set, go!" I said and we took off sprinting towards Isaac's house.
After about a solid four and a half minutes of running, we finally got to his house. It had gotten darker out and Isaac reached into his backpack pocket to pull out a set of keys.
He was rushing and by his body posture, he looked like he was in pain. He was fumbling around with his keys and dropped them twice. When the door finally got open, he sighed and looked at me standing a few feet away from him.
A car was coming from the opposite direction we ran from and Isaac froze.
"He's here," He said and looked at me with horror. "Hide."
I sprinted into the bushes by the side of his house just as the car pulled into the driveway.
A man got out as I peeked my head out to the side. Isaac had successfully locked the door and was probably somewhere in the house panicking.
I heard the front door open and then slam closed.
"Isaac, get your ass down here," I heard yelling.
A few crashes happened and a high-pitched yelp.
I could tell Isaac was hurt. I needed to leave but I couldn't not do anything.
I took a very slow breath and tried to see into the window.
Isaac was laying on the ground and his father was standing over him.
A duffle bag was next to Isaac and his backpack was on top of that.
Isaac sat up and I felt our eyes meet. A yellow halo suddenly appeared over his head. His father's head had a black halo just like Matt's.
My body froze and I couldn't feel anything.
Anger courses through me. And suddenly Isaac's dad passes out.
I stumble back in shock. Did I just do that?
I looked back at the window and Isaac was frantically grabbing the duffle bag and his backpack.
He headed towards the front door and I went there to meet him.
Of course, I managed to effectively scare the absolute daylight out of him as he closed his front door quietly.
"Are you okay?" I asked him, which caused him to jump a foot in the air.
"I'm just going to spend the night in the woods," He said when he saw me.
"Why?" I asked him.
"Well, I do this when my dad is drunk. And I shower at school so it's fine," Isaac shrugged and headed towards the back of his house.
"Stay at my house," I blurted.
Isaac stopped walking and turned to look at me.
It was really dark out now.
The wind was picking up and I could practically feel my blood slowly pulsing through my body.
"I'll come with you," Isaac said, walking back to me.
I offered my hand out to his empty hand.
He looked unsure, maybe because holding hands was a couples thing to do.
"Come on Lahey, I'm freezing," I said. "I thought California was supposed to be warm."
We were walking back towards the street when I heard a low growl.
It was coming from behind me and I turned around just in time to see two red eyes pulling away from the foliage.
I gripped Isaac's hand tighter.
"So what should I make for dinner?" I asked as we walked back to my house.
