Derek drove me home in his ridiculously rich and fancy car. My mom's car was in the driveway.
"Remember what I said. We met at the party and found out we were related. We started talking and lost track of time. I offered to drive you home and my car got a flat tire. Your shoulder is wrapped because you fell when some drunk guy pushed you," Derek repeated.
We had gone over this story to be as plausible as possible.
"Right, right. Okay then, let's do this," I said as he parked outside the house.
I hopped out of the car and my mother opened the door as soon as I approached the house.
"Elise Romano, where the hell have you been? I almost called Sheriff Stilinski," My mother said as she strangled me in a tight hug.
I winced since my shoulder still burned. She let go of me and looked behind me at Derek standing beside me.
"Hey Aunt Heidi," Derek said as he awkwardly scratched his neck.
"Oh, Derek, honey," My mothers face softened as she pulled him into a gentle hug. "How did you two meet?" She narrowed her eyes and stared at the two of us.
"We met at the party," Derek said quickly. "I wanted to stop by to say hey."
Honestly, I don't know who is more awkward and worse at lying, Stiles or Derek. Derek is being more obvious than Stiles right now. I kind of want to punch him and run.
"Come inside then," My mother offered.
"Oh, it's fine. I don't want to bother you," Derek tried backing away.
"I insist," My mother said. Her voice sounded scary now.
We entered the house by my mothers orders and sat down in the living room. My mother and Derek stared at each other for a moment.
"So she knows then?" my mother asked.
"She's like one of them," Derek said.
"I'm literally right here," I spoke up.
"She should have aged out of the change years ago," My mom insisted, clearly ignoring me. "I kept her away long enough."
"It's called beacon hills for a reason," Derek sighed.
"Still sitting here," I said slightly louder than before.
"I stopped being an emissary long ago, Derek. I don't need my only child involved," My mother stood up. "Addonexus shouldn't even be near werewolves, let alone mix with them." She went upstairs without even sparing me a glance.
"Derek," I looked at him. "She knows then?"
"You'd be so surprised at what your mother knows. She just didn't want you to end up like her," Derek sighed and put his head in his hands.
"What was the whole ten word conversation about then?" I asked him.
"If I tell you, you can't tell any of your friends, even if it's life or death," Derek said sternly, "Promise?"
"Promise," I nodded and sat closer to him.
"You're an addonexus, a rare being that is only born every seventy five years. Your mother is or was an emissary for an old werewolf pack in Beacon Hills before she met your father," Derek looked at me with conflicting eyes. "When my family died, I'd just assumed that she did too. I'd only heard you had moved here when your mother purchased this house. The only family I thought I had was killed by the alpha werewolf. Your mother didn't think you would gain your addonexus powers since most get their powers in their early teens. And to top it all off, I do think that you're part werewolf."
"So I'm an incredibly rare hybrid species whose powers started to appear the second I moved into a town with other legendary creatures?" I asked.
"Pretty much, yeah."
"And I can't tell anyone about this?" I asked. "What if they just find out on their own?"
"Finding out and telling are two incredibly different parts of a spectrum that most people have similar preconceived notions about," Derek shrugged.
"So you're my naturally born werewolf half cousin and all of our other relatives in my mothers family are dead?" I asked, in too much shock.
"Well, my Uncle Peter is in a coma but he's pretty burnt and useless."
"It's nice to know that I have a family that isn't abusive and shitty," I smiled at him softly.
"You're not so bad yourself," He gave a small smile back.
"So how old are you?" I asked him.
"I'm twenty three," Derek replied.
"You look like a serial killer honestly," I snorted.
"You look like a..... a chihuahua," Derek replied.
"Cause I'm tiny and will cut your balls off if you make me mad?" I asked.
"No, cause you're annoying," He remarked. "And leave my balls out of this."
"You should date my friend Stiles. You're too much like him," I insisted.
"I'd rather not get arrested for dating a minor, thank you very much," He responded and stood up. "I should get going."
"What are you going to do all day? Drive around in your fast car and stare at hot people?" I snickered.
"No, I am going to run through the entire Beacon Hills reserve and check for traps and stuff," He said as he opened the front door.
"Can I come?" I asked excitedly.
"You should talk to your mother. And also call Scott," Derek said before leaving.
He got into his very rich and fancy car that he probably sold his liver for and drove away.
