Drew's POV
After I heard what I heard I quietly ran up the stairs and ran to my room then locked it just In case.He couldn't be serious could he? He wouldn't hurt anyone. But then again I didn't think he'd kidnap someone. Clearly my brother was full of surprises.
"Whatever it takes to protect the truth." I repeated aloud as I stared at myself through my mirror.
I couldn't tell Cassie and Chris, but then again I couldn't not tell them. I don't think I would've been able to live with myself if something happened to them. If I told them, what could they do? What would they do? They'd have to escape. I didn't know if they could even pull it off and if they did I wonder how Derek would feel. I felt like they had a right to at least know what Derek had planned to do, I checked the time and it was already past midnight.
I quietly snuck out my room and in an instant heard voices, I hid behind the wall in the hallway and heard Derek and his "friends" leave. Where the heck was Derek going? I ignored the thought and focused my attention to Cassie and Chris. I went into Cassie's room and flipped on the light switch.
I heard her bed squeaked, "Drew?" She mumbled. At first I ignored her so I could get Chris in the room. "What are you doing here?" She asked when I came back in, her eyes squinted from the sudden light change.
"What's going on?" Chris yawned with arms stretched as he sat next to Cassie on her bed.
I didn't know how to tell them so I decided to just rip the band-aid, "Derek has something planned for you guys." I said, they looked too tired to even react. "I think he's planning to hurt you." I added. Chris yawned which made Cassie yawn as well. Were they not taking me seriously?
"Drew, if Derek wanted to hurt us he would've done it by now." Cassie stated quietly. "It's been over a month and look we're still alive." She added bluntly. I looked over at Chris to see he had agreed with Cassie.
I tried to think of something that would make them believe me, but it was hard to do after midnight with artificial light beaming down at you. "That's because I don't think he planned to kill you at first," I paused, "but now that you know the truth," I paused again, "he's willing to do whatever it takes to protect it." I concluded. Chris and Cassie exchanged a few looks before they looked at me finally showing me that they believed me.
Cassie looked at me then at Chris and then at me again,"what are we supposed to do then?" Her voice cracked with fear.
The room went silent and the only thing I could hear was my own thoughts and the rapid beating of my heart. "You have to escape." The words came out surprising even myself, Chris and Cassie looked at me with confused looks.
Chris looked at me with a questionable look, "and how are we supposed to do that?" He asked curiously doubting hope of ever escaping this place.
A plan grew in my head and while it was coming together I started to see hope for their escape, "I think I have an idea." I muttered still skeptical if it would even work. As I explained the plan, it seemed like the only one interested was Chris.
A grin grew upon Chris' face, "You think it'll work?" Chris asked confidently, he seemed more enthusiastic about this than Cassie who by the way is Derek's target.
I shrugged my shoulders, "if you pull it off right." I looked at Chris, he looked like a spark had ignited in him.
Chris glanced at Cassie as I followed to look at her as well, "What's wrong Cass?" Chris asked a very quiet Cassie her thoughts and opinion on the escape. The word 'escape' makes it sound weird like I never expected it to actually happen or have it happen in that way.
"I'm not doing it." She said which made Chris not too happy.
Chris shook his head not accepting her decision, "Cass what are-"
"I'm not doing it unless Drew comes with us." She explained.
"Cassie." Chris tried to put some sense into her.
Did she not know my situation about leaving this place? "I can't leave my brother." Ispoke.
She shook her head, "no," she shook her head again while pursing her lips, "I'm not going." She determined.
"Cassie are you even listening?" Chris asked. He looked like a parent trying to convince his stubborn kid to do something.
"If we leave, then Drew is at risk." Cassie explained. I finally understood where she was coming from. She was afraid about how my brother react towards me if they found out I was the one that released them.
My brother couldn't hurt me. "My brother won't hurt me." I stated. Cassie at first looked at me seriously, but once I finished she rolled her eyes at me.
"You said it yourself your brother will do anything to protect the truth and this could be one of them." She protested. I couldn't believe it, but she was starting to make me question my own brother, my own flesh and blood.
"I can't go out there. My life isn't out there." I defended. I've never stepped foot outside this city without Derek.
She looked at me with her intense brown eyes, filled with gloominess and confidence. "It's scarier to live your life not knowing what's really out there." She stated calmly.
I thought about what she said, "fine." I sighed. Chris and Cassie looked at me surprised.
"Okay then." Was all she said before she agreed to go with plan all of a sudden.
She claimed she wanted to forget me, but then I really doubted she even wanted to. Now she wanted to keep me alive because what? She started to care again.
I only said what I had to to keep her alive, because I cared.
Sorry Cassie, but I can't let anything bad happen to you.
