Drew's POV

I casually walked into the living room of the beat up old "house" we lived in. More like a warehouse if you asked me. I slumped onto the patched dirty suede couch Derek found years ago. I guess I shouldn't be complaining about the condition, at least we have a couch now unlike before when we would have to sit on plastic chairs and call it a couch.

"Drew!" The front door swung open and Derek called for me. I hope he comes into the living room and finds me, instead of me having to go to him. "Andrew!" He calls again louder.

I groan at my full name and walk towards the opened door. I spot the shining sun piercing my eyes. I wish I could go outside whenever I want, well I guess I can but the backyard isn't as fun as the front. In the back I'm still trapped in this place. In not allowed to leave this place unless it's with my brother, I don't even plan to sneak away because his threats seem pretty convincing.

"Drew." Derek called. "Did you even hear me?" He asked frustrated with my lack of attention.

"What. Y-yeah. Something about going into town?" I make up knowing that's exactly what he didn't say. We live too far from town, sometimes I forget what it looks like I sigh

He threw a death stare at me. "I said to help bring in this month's groceries from the car." He nudged to his car. His car being a taxicab that he found in the junkyard and fixed up. He would even pretend to be a taxi driver just so he can get money from people. He says and I quote,'You gotta do, what you gotta do.'

"Drew!" Derek called again. "Go." He orders carrying two paper bags into the kitchen. I begin to walk outside and the sun rays hit me, the heat isn't too hot where I'm sweating instantly, but enough to make it feel like when you're taking shower in hot water you don't even feel the water anymore you just feel the heat. I walk to the trunk of the 'cab' and pick up the remaining paper brags that to the looks of it included frozen microwaveable food. Which to me, is the grossest thing ever.

Once I finally brought the bags to the kitchen, Derek immediately puts things away in it's proper spot. I walk back to the couch and lie down waiting for the day to go by.

"Oh Drew." Derek said. "You have another letter from Mom and Dad." He mentions waving the envelope in hand before placing it on the counter.

It took me a couple seconds to react before deciding to get up. I walked to the envelope hold it in hands, my hands met at the middle top of the envelope and I casually rip the letter in half not caring what was written inside.

"You know, you can read them." Derek says taking the milk out of the paper bag and putting it on the refrigerator.

"Yeah and they can love me." I countered before throwing the rip later in the garbage.

"They love you." Derek protested opening the freezer door.

"If they did, then they'd show their faces to me." I said pitting the microwavable foods into the freezer.

"You know they can't." Derek said, defending my 'so called parents'.

"Yeah, but I never knew why." I protest folding the paper bags with raised eyes hinting that he should tell me.
