Rui loved tending to the flowers.

It was the one hobby of his that involved menial labor that he still liked. After all, weren't the flowers so pretty? So lovely? It was worth the work in the end for an enchanting display.

Hmm... say, why don't  we use the theme of flowers for our next show?

"And so that's my idea. Any suggestions?"

Saki raised her hand. "Ooh, I've got one! Can we make it about fairies? Like the classic woodland ones in the stories?"

Rui nodded. "That sounds nice."

"We should put flowers around the stage," Kohane said, "Some real, some fake, of course. Fake ones are easier to maintain."

"Question, can I be an evil fairy?" Mizuki chuckled.

"You know what, sure."

When he went back to the gardens, he had a hard choice to make:

Which one of his lovelies would he use for the shows?

"Sorry, guys," he mumbled, "I'm going to have to take some of you."

He observing each of the blooms in turn, muttering to himself as he went. "Not the right colour... needs to be bigger...."

He paused. "...don't really want to take you out of your spot." He smirked. "You're safe, you lucky-"

"You talking to your flowers?"

Rui jumped in surprise, but when he turned around, he found it was only Mizuki. They were changed out of their training sweats, into their nicer outfit.

"Didn't know you spoke to the flowers as well as taking care of them."

"Ah yes," he leaned down as if to listen to the flowers. "Uh-huh.... yes..." he turned back to Mizuki. "The flowers say, 'no kidding, detective Mizuki!'"

"Ha ha," they scoffed. "Listen, do you want to come to the mall with me later? There's a blouse I want to buy."

He stood up and brushed himself off. "Sure." Then he turned to the flowers and gave a flourishing bow. "Farewell, pretty blooms."

Mizuki laughed, and put on a high-pitched voice. "Farewell, Rui! We'll miss you!"
