STEPHANIE ODETTE COLE WALKS into christopher sturniolo's room tears in her eyes, her nose red and lips shivering.

"what's wrong?" he jumps from his bed.

silence.

"you kissed heather?" she looks up asking.

and just like that chris sturniolo's heart fell into his stomach.

"what?" the boy rubs up to her.

"did you kiss heather?" she looks.

"h-heather? what no! no." chris insisted.

but then again.

"i-" he remembers letting out a groan.

"oh my god," stephanie covers her mouth.

"you actually kissed her?" she sobs out.

"yes, but it was an accident!" chris tells.

"what? did you fall on her lips or something?" stevie narrows her watery eyes.

"stevie, i promise you it meant nothing, i promise," he begs her.

"why do you do this?" the girl asks.

"you say we're not just friends but you go and kiss other girls like i mean nothing to you." she points to her chest.

"why cant we find the ending of something you keep beginning." her finger pokes his chest aggressively.

making him lean his head down.

"stevo, i promise you that was a long time ago i swear i would never kiss her i-i felt bad." he grabs her hands.

"please don't." she says as he kisses the backhands then the palms.

"chris please, this can't keep happening to me, i cant keep thinking that i'm so easy to replace." she sobs out.

"no! no! your not your my number one girl and you know that, you know that." he huffed.

"you know i would drop everything for you," chris stuttered.

"but you didn't." she whispers.

"maybe i deserve all of this." stevies gulps.

"or maybe i just wish i could go back to the time where when someone mentioned you i didn't smile." she gasped out finding it hard to breath.

"i'm tired of feeling like i'm fucking crazy!" her voice screams loudly.

"why do you do this to me." she whispers.

"stevie." the boy grabs her face.

"i swear on your life, on trevor's life." he adds.

the girls face softens, he was being serious.

"i promise you, that heather, odette anyone other than you." chris squints.

"i don't even think about anymore." he throws his hands in the air.

"your my stevie, and even if we are just friends, you will always and forever be my stevie." the hurt in his voice was real as the cracks where filled with tears.

they say love isn't supposed to hurt.

i guess they haven't experienced real love yet.

"chris." she sighs holding his face.

"i don't..." the girl stutters.

"i feel like- i feel like." she has trouble saying whatever she says.

"i forgive you but-" a yell was heard.

"kids dinner!" mary lou's voice screams making them part as they're sleeves went to push away their tears.

"coming." they both yell parting away awkwardly.

the family was sitting in the table, chris opposite stevie as he watched her eat her food.

sometimes he thinks about how snow only falls in certain places, or how our thoughts get stored away in secret places.

he thinks about driving down a highway with his hand in hers, with that sleepy smile he loves, and knowing she'll always stay.

he thinks about the color of his eyes during the summer and her favorite shirt, it was the one she took from him.

sometimes he thinks about everything they could do together, but if chris was honest, the thing he thought about the most, was her.

"chris, chris," matt snaps his fingers in the boys face.

"huh? what?" he snaps his head to him.

"pass the salt," matt rolls his eyes as he was handed the salt.

stevie looked to him, he was so close yet so far.

she likes to think that when her hand reaches out into the empty air, that in another universe he was pressing his palm onto hers, and hugging her gently while humming a song.

"remember when our elementary school burnt down." nic says out of the blue taking a bite out his bread.

"did they ever say who it was?" jimmy asks.

"they said it was arson." matt continued.

the whole table slowly turns to stevie.

she looks up from munching on her food.

"what? jeopardy was on that week i didn't do it." her hands throw in surrender.

the family kept eating until they finished and it was chris and stevies turn to put away the table.

"wait stevie what'd you say." nic asks handing her the plate.

"when?" she looks up confused.

"just a second ago." he tells.

"i said, when." the girl informs him like he was the stupid one.

"no th- okay great thanks." hs laughs walking out the room leaving stevie and chris all alone with the sound of the water running down the sink.

the sound of plates clinking together, forks, spoons and knives. the sound of the soap being squeezed out the bottle and onto the glass. the sound of the twos heartbeats beating like there was no tomorrow.

nothing stevie hates more than racists are awkward silences.

"i love Canada!" she yells out of nowhere.

chris looks up to the tile confused, opening his mouth then closing it not knowing what to say.

"really, what do you love about it?" he clears his throat handing her another plate to wash.

"uh." stevie gulps tapping her shoe trying to think of anything.

"what is this some kind of quiz?" she laughs quietly.

then silence over took them once more.

clink clank.

the noise stevie hated, and chris knew that he tried his best not to make too much noise with the plates.

"don't you think it's sexist that i'm the one washing the dishes?" she turns her head hands on hips.

"your the one who said you wanted to." he clicked his tongue.

"well i don't want to anymore." she pushed past the boy making go to the sink.

and awkward silence was back at it again.

H speaks!
heather strikes once more
