Y/N POV

Walking through the hallways at work I hummed to myself, trying to distract from the eerie stillness of the building I spent all my time in. Working in a science lab was cool, don't get me wrong, I loved my job. There was the down side of working night shift, alone, in a giant underground bunker though.

Getting my lab coat from my locker, I walked down the hallway while tying my hair into a low bun. I gave Greg the security guard a head nod before getting into the elevator to take me down to "Sub level 2". Sub level 2 was where my lab was, where I spent 7.5 hours a day filling capsules with powder to give to "crazy" people. Sounds thrilling, trust me thought, it's not.

Before the elevator got to my floor I realized I had forgotten my goggles, of course I did. I groaned and stopped the elevator, swaying my keycard in front of the reader and pressing the "3" button, I felt the elevator shift and start its journey back up.

Walking back down the creepy hallway I heard rustling coming from my office, I slowed, walking quietly to my door and leaned closer.

"There has to be some kind of paperwork here, I don't even know what we're looking for, but Nancy will kick both of our asses if we don't find these papers." Max?

"Max? Is that you...?" I turned into the doorframe and saw Max, the redhead looked at me while awkwardly waving. I looked next to her and saw my ex, Steve Harrington starring at me.

"What are you doing here?" I simply ignored his presence and went back to pay full attention to Max. She had been my neighbor for a while and we got close, since our parents were such good friends Max would come over often. Until she started hanging out with douche bag.

"Uhhh, that's a funny question. We're looking for some papers.." My lips formed a straight line as I looked blankety at her.

"Well, you are indeed going to find a lot of papers here." Steve chuckled in the corner but quickly playing it off as a cough when I shot him a glare.

"Well, we're kind of looking for formulation papers for a certain medication you may or may not have filled capsules with."

"And why would you need that information?"

"Uhhh that's classified." Steve chimed in.

"Classified? You broke into my work, to steal papers, for a medication you don't even know the name of, and you can't tell me why.?"

"Well yeah, that's what classified means." Steve gave me the "duh" look, or as I also like to call it, his normal look.

"And also, we didn't break in. Greg remembered me and let us in." I rolled my eyes.

"Remembered you? How did he know you in the first place?" Max asked from the corner of my office.

"Oh well when we dated, she used to sneak me in here and we would make ou-" I cut Steve off before he could continue his story.

"OK that's enough. You two can't be here, you gotta go or else I get fired and both of you get murdered." I shooed them away.

"You two dated???" Max laughed as she asked the question, noticeably confused at the thought.

"Yeah yeah, we dated, he turned into a raging douche bag and we broke up. So much fun! Now goodbye." I pushed them to the entrance doors and waved them away as I walked back into the building, not looking back before heading down to the lab once again. This time, with my goggles.

Leaving work at 3am is something I don't think I'll ever get used too, but the drive home is easy so I can't complain too much. Pulling into my driveway I look into my room and see the light is on. And there's a car in my driveway, who belongs to no one other than Steve.
