Steve POV

I ran through the halls of Hawkins lab, the vines on the floor snapping up at me, grabbing my ankles and wrists. I was slammed to the floor, feeling my face explode in pain. I gasped as something gripped my legs, dragging me backwards. I clawed at the floor, trying to gain some leverage away from the cruel monster that had me. I screamed for help, screamed so loud my throat was bleeding.

Looking back all I could see was the gate, the gate to hell, the red gate to the upside down in which I would not be able to escape.

"HELP! SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE." I begged, I begged for help and no one came.

Y/n's POV

I sat at my desk, writing down some notes in my journal to keep track of what monsters were where and what was what. I had recently joined the 'team' as my brother Lucas called it. Or if you want to be technical it was the 'monster hunting squad' per Dustin's words. I heard Steve breathing a bit heavier, looking over my shoulder at my bed I saw he was still asleep. As I turned around I heard him jolt out of bed, gasping for air. I jumped out of shock and walked over to him.

"Hey, hey you're ok.." He was still gasping and panting, looking more distraught by the minute. I sat next to him, placing my hand on his shoulder he jumped. Looking over at me, he seemed to calm down a bit.

"It got me Y/n, it got me and I was stuck."

"Shhh, it's ok. You were just dreaming.." I cooed at him. Wrapping the arm on his shoulder around him he relaxed into my side, I smoothed his hair back, petting him for a little while. I started to hum a song my mom used to sing to me. It always put me to sleep.

"I love this song.." He sounded sleepy.

"Yeah?" He simply nodded and I smiled lightly at the boy in my lap. I lightly sang the words, and I could feel him relax even further into my side. Looking down I saw he was back to sleep, I slipped out from under him and walked downstairs. Making sure to keep quiet.

"You're up late." I jumped at the sound of my brother voice.

"I could say the same to you." He shrugged his shoulders, walking up stairs and leaving me in piece. For only a moment of course, because he came rushing back down the stairs not even a minute later.

"Why is Steve Harrington sleeping in your bed?" He snapped at me.

"Why do you care?" He gave looked at me with wide eyes.

"Umm, I don't know. Maybe because he's a guy and you're a girl?" I looked at him silently for a second.

"I'm so glad you were able to observe that, thank you Lucas.." I walked to the fridge, looking for a water bottle.

"You're so annoying, you know what I'm talking about."

"Is Max not in your room right now?" He shook his head.

"Actually she isn't." I closed the fridge door and crossed my arms.

"So if I go into your room right now, I won't find her." I shook his head again.

"Nope." I shrugged my shoulders.

"Okay." I went to walk up the stairs but he grabbed my arm, stopping me.

"Okay fine! She is in there."

"Lucas! You can't have girls in your room, you're 14.." He gasped.

"Umm I'm 15 thank you." I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah same thing idiot."

"You're only 17.." I nodded.

"And not an idiot. So I can have boys in my room." He crossed his arms.

"Do mom and dad know?"

"Do mom and dad know about Max?"

"Can you two shut up? I am trying to get my beauty sleep and your voices are too annoying to tune out." We both looked up at Erica, our little sister.

"Sorry, go back to bed." I said to her, whispering.

"I will go back to bed, thank you." She muttered something to herself and walked back to her room, shutting the door.

"Truce?" Lucas asked me, I nodded and he spit in his hand, shaking mine. I gagged and ran to the sink to wash my hands, after his spit covered the entirety of my palm.

"You're disgusting."

"Yeah, so are you."

"OH MY GOD SHUT UP!" I winced at her yelling, and Lucas and I both walked back to our bedrooms.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I woke up in the morning to see Steve had already gotten up, I yawned. Sitting up from my bed, I swung my legs over the side and stood up. Stretching my arms above my head I groaned. Hearing Steve's voice I walked into the hall, turning to go to Lucas' room. Peering in I saw all the kids and Steve talking, including Erica. I pushed open the door and everyone got silent.

"Don't worry, it's just me.." Steve sent me a smile and I smiled back, closing the door after me I sat down in the bed. Hearing them all speak of monsters, and doctors and magic powers I tried to keep up. It was exhausting trying to remember all the names, the shapes and sizes, the powers and so on.

"Okay guys, tonight is our last chance, we gotta get El." Everyone nodded, yet that was the one person I had yet to meet.

I left the room to get something to eat, I was starving and ready for breakfast. I felt a presence behind me, turning around it was Steve. I smiled and he smiled back, walking closer to me he stood by my side and awkwardly played with his hands.

"So about last night..." I looked up at him.

"Yes?" He sighed.

"Thank you, for singing me to sleep... I uhh kind of needed that." I giggled at his awkward state.

"You don't have to thank me, really I enjoy singing." He smiled, brushing his hand against mine.

"You are a really good singer.." He trialed off.

"You think so?" He nodded and smirked at me.

"Could you flirt anywhere else other than the kitchen? I'm supposed to eat here." Erica stated from the doorway. I laughed along with Steve, and walked him to the front door.

"Listen, you should come with us tonight. You know, fight the monsters and what not." I smiled.

"You know, I might pass but thank you for the invite." He sighed.

"Okay, well I may come back for another lullaby." I laughed, and he flashed his gorgeous smile at me.

"Deal Harrington." I stuck my hand out and he grasped it, shaking mine and walking off, looking back at me and winking. I giggled, shutting the door behind me and closing my eyes. He was so so cute.

"You're dumb if you think he's something special." The smile I had faded and I looked at my little sister.

"You're a buzzkill."

"Heard that!" Lucas yelled from his room.
