Author's note: The picture is of Viktor.
I couldn't put my finger on it, but something felt off. It has been two weeks since Sheila arrived and I barely see Viktor anymore. I called Starla. She picked up on the third ring.
"Hey Joyana. How's it going?" She said.
"Not too good. How come you didn't respond to my text message?" I asked.
"I didn't get any text from you. What's going on?" She asked.
"It's your son. I haven't really seen him since his sister got here," I said.
"His what? Honey, you're breaking up," she said.
"I said his sister-" I started.
The phone clicked off. Did she just hang up on me? Should I call her back? Before I could even try, my phone was ringing.
"Starla?" I asked.
"Yes, I'm here sweetheart. Did you say his sister?" She asked.
"I did. She's really taking up a lot of his time," I said.
"That's it. I'm coming home. My Viktor doesn't have a sister. He's an only child," she said.
She hung up the phone before I could say anything else. I was reeling. It was like my whole world got turned upside down. I ran to her house but no one was there. I went to the training field and he wasn't there. I finally found them by the pool. They were sharing a lounge chair and a joke. I felt sick.
"Viktor, can I talk to you in private?" I asked.
I had no idea what I was going to say. I just wanted to get him far away from her. This had got to be some sort of joke.
"Sure," he said, getting up.
We went into the adult rec room. I made us both a drink, mine heavy on the alcohol.
"What's this about," he said.
"Just give me a minute," I said, gulping down my drink.
"Take it easy," he said, chuckling.
"I'm afraid you won't listen to me," I said, pouring myself another drink.
"Darling," he said, stopping my hands. "You don't have to get drunk to talk to me. Just tell me what it is."
That's when I knew I couldn't do it. Not without back up. This was too hard. That woman was either an ex or an enemy who put memories in his head.
"You promised you'd help me with the diaries but you haven't. I have been waiting for you to read them," I said.
"Is that all? We can go do that right now. Let me just go tell Sheila," he said.
"Wait. I will go with you," I said.
"Suit yourself, he said, shrugging.
We went back to the pool. Sheila was laying rather seductively by the pool. Something in me was boiling over. How dare she try to seduce my husband while masquerading around as his sister. This was just sick and he seemed completely oblivious.
I'm trying to think of everyone who talked about his sister. His Gamma, Liam. That's all I could think about.
We went upstairs and opened the box my mother sent me. We divided them up equally and began to read. I found one entry that mentioned Jace and set it aside.
I kept finding mentions of Jace. None of them said the Moon God. They all said Jace. From the looks of it. He has been trying to find his mate since the fifteenth century. Every time the bond gets stronger and stronger. This was connected to my family because his mate was a family member. Could it be me?
