In the next week, Rodrick and Kim began to rebuild their relationship. More specifically their friendship. If Kim didn't specifically state that last part, Sam would raise her eyebrows suggestively. And even when she did say especially friendship Kim would give her a look that told her she didn't believe it.

Kim just tried to ignore her, but the truth was that she was very uneasy. She hadn't told Sam that she still had a crush on Rodrick but for some reason, she felt like Sam already knew. And although she trusted and knew Sam she knew that mistakes could be made. Sam could accidentally tell Rodrick about her crush and make things weird between them. She had just got her friend back and she didn't want to lose him.

From the looks of it, she didn't have to worry about that.

"So I hear you got a big test Friday," Kim said as she looked through her locker.

Rodrick smiled. "Yeah, but I'm not too worried. I have the best tutor in the world to help me study."

Kim pretended to be shocked. "Really? You do? Do you think that your tutor is the best?"

Rodrick nodded. "Without a doubt. She is one of the smartest people I've ever known and I'm sure she'll help me pass."

Sam let out a noise of disgust. "Gross. Is this what you feel like whenever I and Joaquin flirt in front of you?"

Kim rolled her eyes. "You're exaggerating. You guys are much grosser because you're a couple."

"And you aren't?" Sam gave a look of mock surprise. "My goodness, I could have sworn you were."

Kim rolled her eyes again. "Shut up."

"Never."

Rodrick laughed. "Listen, I can understand that our behavior is maybe a little couple-like. But we aren't. Kim is like a sister to me."

Kim felt like he had stabbed her in the heart. She ignored it and agreed. "Exactly. And he is like a brother to me."

Sam nodded slowly. "Sure. Well, I've got to get to class and I think you two should do the same. After all, if you don't pass, you're less likely to graduate. And that means you'll have to repeat high school,"

"God, I do not want to repeat high school. This place sucks." Rodrick groaned.

"But is adulthood worth it?" Kim pointed out.

"Yeah! No one can boss you around and you get to do whatever you want." Rodrick argued.

"You also have to pay bills and pay taxes." Sam pointed out. "Get a job. No more vacations from school. If you want to take a vacation you're going to have to ask for time."

Rodrick thought about it. "Yeah, I guess that's true. But I'll still be pursuing my music career and waiting for my big break."

"Just be careful," Sam warned. "The whole, waiting to be discovered, the thing is hot when you're young but once you hit thirty it's not."

Rodrick glared at her. "Thanks for the advice but me and my band are going places. It won't take long now."

Kim rolled her eyes at Rodrick and turned to Sam. "What was that about being late to class?"

Sam pursed her lips and turned around and left. Then Kim looked at the clock and saw that their passing period was ending soon

"Oh, crap. We better get going. I'll see you after school?" She looked expectantly at Rodrick.

"For sure," Rodrick assured her. Then the two made their way to class.

Heather Hills watched the friends closely. She couldn't help but notice that they looked close. A little too close. Closer than she would like them to be.
