Chapter 9: TS-19 (Part 2)

When I got to the kitchen the next morning, Lori, Carl, Carol, Glenn, Dale, Andrea, and T-Dog aree already there.

"Morning," I say to them with a smile on my face.

"Good morning," I hear everyone else say.

As I sit down Rick comes in a sits by his wife and son.

"Are you hung over?" Carl asks his dad. "Mom said you'd be."

"Mom is right," Rick says to his son.

"Mom has that annoying habit," Lori says talking in third person with a smile on her face.

"Eggs," T-Dog shouts to everyone. "Powdered, but I do 'em good. Protein helps the hang overs," he says to Glenn who is moaning and groaning, holding his head.

"Where'd all this come from?" Rick asks, holding up a bottle of pills.

"Jenner," Lori says, grabbing a hold of the pills, opening them for Rick. "He thought we could use them."

"Don't ever, ever, ever let me drink again," Glenn moans out.

"Hey," Shane called out, Rick quickly replying with a 'hey' back.

"Feel as bad as I do?" Rick asks Shane.

"Worse," Shane replies over where he was getting coffee.

"The hell happened to you?" T-Dog asks Shane, looking at his neck that has scratches on it. "Your neck."

"Must've done it in my sleep," Shane says.

"I've never seen you do that before," Rick says from the other side of the table.

"Me either," Shane says, sighing.

"Morning," Jenner says as he walking into the room.

'Morning's' are shot back at him from the rest of the group as he walks over to get coffee.

"Doctor, I don't mean to slam you with questions first thing," Dale says.

"But you will anyway," Jenner says.

"We didn't come here for the eggs," Andrea says.

After Andreas comment, Jenner brings us all back to the room where the desks and computers were in a circle.

"Vi, play back of TS-19," Jenner says, typing something onto his computer.

"Play back of TS-19," VI says and a picture of a human skull comes onto the big screen.

"A few people ever got to see this," Jenner starts. "Very few."

"Is that a brain?" Carl asks.

"An extraordinary one. Not that it matters in the end. Take us in for EIV," Jenner says. The screen then moves so that the picture on the screen is of the brain at a sideways view.

"What are those lights?" Shane asks about the lights that are moving all through the brain on the screen.

"That's a person's life. Experiences, memories, everything. Somewhere in that organic wiring. Ripples of light is you. It's what makes you human."

"You don't make sense, ever?" Daryl asks from besides me.

"Those are synapses. Electrical impulses in the brain that carries all the messages. They determine everything a person says, does, thinks from the moment of birth to the moment of death."

"Death?" Rick asks, walking towards Jenner. "That's what this is, a visual?"

"Yes," Jenner says, still looking at the brain on the screen. "Or rather the playback of the visual."
