Brandon and Kim sit in the small living room of my dorm, no surprise there, of course. They are completely engulfed in a friendly game of grand theft auto.
I nod my head, rolling my eyes while I finish making dinner for all of us.
A rattle of keys is heard in the hallway, and the door opens slowly. Russell closes the door behind him and clears his throat making me smile. Last night was incredible, and I can't help but blush as I smile at him. The vertigo in my stomach goes wild every time I see him.
"Um, evening everyone. Didn't expect to see my dorm full of people today." He chuckles nervously and begins to make his way slowly, hunching over and clearing his throat as he sits on a stool. I raise an eyebrow as he sits, almost nervously on that stool.
What is he talking about? These two practically live here.
I smile and squint my eyes as I stare at him suspiciously. "How was your day at practice today, Russell?" I tilt my head to the side and narrow an eyebrow, studying his every move. There was something oddly suspicious about his behavior tonight. I turn off the stovetop and place the serving spoon down.
"I'm, good... Good, thanks. You know...I should go and get a nice bath. I'm a bit tired and I have a big final tomorrow. So," He points his finger back as he walks backwards toward the bathroom.
Brandon pauses the game and leans his hand on his thigh, turning his body towards Russell, "Hey Bud. How was your day? Sam is making Spaghetti and garlic bread for dinner. You wanna take a seat and play a few games before boring yourself with the books?" Brandon smiles at Russell, but before Russell can answer he starts to look panicked.
He bites his lip and widened his eyes as he looks between us nervously. Something is up, and I know it.
I make my way to the other side of the Island and come close to Russell. There's something oddly strange about the way Russell is behaving.
I stare at him and tilt my head. "Russ, It's a bit late. Did something happen? I'm sure you haven't eaten anything. Are you hungry?" He looks at me while still biting his lip.
His eyes become glossy for some reason, God I swear he's acting so strange. "I, uh. N- no, not really. I just want to go and, um. . you know? lay down . . . to rest a bit. . and-" before he can finish, I hear a meow and a cute kitten makes his way up, pocking his head out of Russell's hoodie and meowing happily.
I gasp and widen my eye. I can't help but smile as I awe at the little thing.
"Shit!" he whispers. He grabs the kitten and I quickly extend my hands out to grab him off his hands.
"Oh. My. God! Russell? You got us a kitty! She is so cute!" The little kitten quickly looks at me as I hold the kitten up and admire how cute the little thing is. The kitty rests her paw on my cheek making me awe.
"Um, it's a boy kitten, not. . . not a girl." He says calmly while closing his eyes, and pinching the curve of his nose. "Oh, well, sorry little buddy. It's nice to meet you, little guy." I hold him softly, carrying him like I would with a tiny newborn baby. Not my first time if I may say... I have held all the babies born to my dad's workers.
Both Brandon and Kim nod in annoyance. "Russ, you do know that there are no animals allowed on the school campus right? If they find out that you brought a cat, you two will be in trouble." Brandon says.
Kim stands and walks toward me, taking the kitten in away from me and hugging him. She smiles and kisses him on his little head while the kitten meows looking at back to me. He meows as his head keeps turning towards me.
"Awe, Sam? I think he thinks you're his momma. Here, you can have him back." She gives the kitten back to me and I can't help but smile. "Awe, come here little Figaro. Come to momma." Russell chuckles looking at me.
"Figaro?" He asks smiling.
"Yeah, he looks like Figaro from 'Pinocchio'." I smile and squint my nose, kissing the kitten on his tiny nose. Russell raises an eyebrow and shrugs his shoulders nodding his head.
"Anyway, don't name him, I'm not keeping him. I found him in a box by the alley next to the gym. I drove down to the shelter to leave him, but they were already closed. So I'm skipping class tomorrow so I can drive him out there." He runs the back of his finger across the kitten's fur on his back and the kitten purrs with the feel of his hand.
"What? You can't do that!" I glare at him and cover the kitten with both of my hands, moving my body away from Russell to one side. He is not about to take my new fire baby away.
Russell looks at me confused and parts his lips slightly. "Why not? He can get adopted and go to a nice home."
"You can't just come home and bring a girl a kitten just to take it away the next day Russell! I won't let you take him away. Figaro is staying here, with me. Right, Figaro, you like it here with me, don't you? I'll take care of you little guy." I smile holding him against my cheek.
Russell sighs and closes his eyes, pinching the curve of his nose. He holds his hand out for the kitten. Taking it in his hands, making me pout my lips and give him my puppy eyes.
"Sam... I....uggghhh!" I pretend sniffle, lowering my head.
"Fine. You can keep it!" He says making me squeal and clap my hands. My hands reach out for Figaro, but Russell moves him away.
"IF! you can keep him from making too much noise and keep Carol from finding out we have him living here with us. Got it?" Carol is the lady that takes care of our building.
I nod and take Figaro back in my arms away from Russell. "Got it." I replie giggling and kissing Figaro on his nose and cuddling him against my chest. "Got it! Thanks, Russ!" I lean forward and stand on my tiptoes kissing him on his lips.
He smiles, wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing me again, this time, I mold my lips with him, allowing him access to my mouth as our tongues taste each other's, sweetness.
All the tension of today's tests was forgotten at this very moment. Dad is right, Russell is amazing.
