Sam
I woke up laying on my side. I was still completely naked from an intense night with Russell. He wasn't kidding when he said I wouldn't sleep all night. He was ready to go for another round just minutes after one round finished. But, we weren't as loud as Phoebe and Fred though.
It was close to ten in the morning when I finally woke up. Russell held me in a spooning position. I'm starting to think this is his favorite way of holding me. I could feel his soft breath on the back of my neck, making my spine shiver. I smiled, grabbing his hands and pulling them to make him hold me tighter.
He sighed, tightening his hold on me, and interlacing our legs together. I smiled in contentment. I'm so glad I listened to Kim and dad about giving Russell a fair chance. I haven't thought of my ex this whole time being with him. It's thanks to Russell that I realized what a douchbag Craig is.
I could hear Christmas music playing and Phoebe laughing. The house felt warm comparing to last night, and my nose filled with the mix bacon and fresh cinnamon rolls. Russell stirred, making me turn slowly to face him. "It smells really good out there." he says while his eyes were still closed. I smiled, leaning in and kissing his lips and wrapping my arms around his torso.
"It does. Maybe we should get up and help." I suggested, running my fingers through his hair and combing it away from his face. "I think that would be a great idea. Besides, you're right. Maybe I should talk with my uncle in a more...calm and sensible way." he says, as I bury my head in his chest. "That sounds like a plan." I say yawning in his chest, making him chuckle.
We got up, showered quickly, changed into comfy clothes and went out to help them. "Good morning!"I said, making them turn. Phoebe looked like she had just had a nice bath too, with her hair tossed into a messy bun. Wearing an over sized t-shirt that looked like it belonged to Fred and a pair of black leggings with big black fluffy sox.
"Good morning guys. Come, come!" she said excitedly, gesturing with her hand to make us sit on the island stools.
She hugged Russell, and kissed me on the head and placed two mugs of hot cocoa with a candy cane in it. She grabbed marshmallows off a small jar and placed them inside our cocoa filled mugs. Russell smiled, looking up at me and then at his uncle. "Listen, about last night," she blushes, tucking a lose strand of hair behind her ear. "Freddy and I may have gotten a little out of hand. I'm sorry if we were too loud." she says to us, making Fred choke on his coffee. She turns to look at him, making all of us feel a bit awkward.
I could tell Russell was trying to contain his laughter. "Noise? We didn't...hesr anything, did we Russ?" I said trying to make the conversation saa bit less awkward. "Nope. Not at all. We went straight to sleep!" he says, making Fred turn, giving him an I already know everything look. "Anyway, we were thinking of going to the town's Christmas fair today. There's a parade happening at noon, what do you say?" she says, making me feel excited. "Yes! I'm in." I say without hesitation.
"Uhh, ok. I guess we're joining you." Russell says, giving me a worried smile.
Fred had his back toward us, washing a few dishes. He couldn't help but turn his head slightly to look at us. Phoebe cleared her throat, crossing her hands over her chest and gesturing for him to talk to Russell. I did the same as things became awkward. Russell looks at me, and I gesture towards his uncle, tilting my head toward him. They both sigh, and Fred turns off the tap, dries his hands and takes a seat next to him, clearing his throat.
"Hey, Russ... I uhh, I'm sorry about last night. I was out of line, and I shouldn't have yelled at you."
"Uncle Fred, you don't have to apologize. I shouldn't have yelled at you too. I get it you have your reasons for wanting to protect me, but, I'm a grown man. And-" Fred lifts his hand, nodding his head and closing his eyes.
"Now, son... Listen for a sec, please. I was out of line. Son, ever since the passing of your parents things got a little crazy. I went from being a single man with no inspiration, no responsibilities and living life full of party and liquor to having to take care of a ten year old boy. I remember the day you came like it was yesterday. You were a tiny boy, your blue eyes were empty, and filled with sadness. I didn't just lose my brother that day, but I also lost my happy go lucky nephew. And he was gone for a long... Long time." Fred says as his voice begins to break and his eyes fill with tears.
"And it tore me apart to see you so sad. I decided to make it my mission to get my shit together for you. Because I wanted you to see that even though I was the total opposite from your pops...a man that had it all. A good family, a good business, and a good career. Then, look at me? A high school drop out, struggling from pay check to pay check. You remember when you came? We lived in the outskirts of town on a rundown mobile home." Russell smiles, lowering his head and sighing.
"How can I forget? That sink kept leaking all night, and the shower kept running out of warm water after ten minutes." he says, making his uncle laugh. Fred nods his head, "Yeah... But it was good times. It was there that I realized that I needed to make things right. You mean a lot to me, son. I don't want you being mad at me." he knitted his eyebrows, looking sad.
"Uncle Fred, I could never stay mad at you, and I could never hate you. You're more than my uncle... To me, you're my dad." he says, tearing Fred up. He pulls Russell by his shoulder, engulfing him in a big bear hug.
I love how caring he is with Russell. He's such a fatherly figure with him. Russell may not have his parents anymore, but he has an uncle who loves him dearly, and that's what's important.
