Sam

"What are going to do now? Dad's not answering his phone and neither is my mom." I say, irritated with this whole situation. I paced back and forth, tapping my phone on my palm.

Russell sat on our sofa, scrolling through his phone and running a hand across his face. "I found a nice apartment just blocks away. But the rent is pretty high. I'll send them a message to see if we can go see it tomorrow."

"Where could my dad be? Oh, my poor Figaro. I should have listened to you and taken him with us to go see your uncle." I say, sitting next to him.

He pulls me closer, hugging me around my shoulders and kissing the top of my head. "Babe, it's ok. We'll figure this out together. Ok?"

The door opened then and my dad pops his head in nervously and gasps when he sees us. "Sammy, Russ. You're here. Oh thank goodness." he says, sighing in relief.

"I told you she sent a message earlier before my phone died. Hi, sweety. We are so glad to see you still here." my mom says, hugging me and kissing my cheek.

"Hi, Russell,"  she says still a bit awkward since he and mom hadn't gotten along well. "Hello, ma'am," he answers her.

"Dad. Where is my baby?" I ask, irritated as he looks at me worried. His hands go up in defense and steps back. "Now, baby. It's... It's not my fault, ok? I promise. I meant no harm. That lady was brutal." he says, acting scared of our tenant.

Truth is, she was brutal. But she was just doing her job. I couldn't be mad at her, it was our fault for not abiding by the rules.

"Dad... What happened? Why... How did you get caught? I told you to keep him with you at home. Why did you come here?"

"We just wanted to give you guys a surprise, Sam." mom cuts in, grabbing my shoulder slightly.

"What?" I ask, confused by her words. What did she mean by surprise?

"See, we wanted to come by and clean this place up. I wanted to observe the things you had and... Maybe do a little upgrade. I mean, you're going to be a for at least five more months this school year after all, and you have next year as well. I feel so bad about the way I treated you guys, I just... Wanted to make it up." my mom sounded convincing for once.

I placed my hand over my forehead, closed my eyes, and sighed. "Well, there's nothing else we can do. We have two days to move out, and I have no clue where we're going to live now." she scuffs, rolling her eyes.

"Of course you do." my mom says, making me look at her confused." I am not about to move in with Craig if that's what you're thinking. I told you, I want nothing to do with him." I said, making dad looks at her angrily.
