Warnings: The aftermath of the party. Lan Zhan's POV
Never in his life had Lan Zhan felt more exposed. He wondered idly if this was how it felt to be naked in public. Knowing his face was aflame and not being able to do anything to control it was beyond mortifying. He tried his best to keep his facade of coolness on, and hoped it worked. But he seriously doubted it was the case.
Surrendering to his impulses had never led to anything good. The first time, he had destroyed his relationship with Wei Ying and now, he had physically attacked one of his friends. He felt like utter shit, again.
As he walked, he kept his eyes downcast, intently watching his own step as Wei Ying didn't let go of his left wrist. Wei Ying kept a grip on Lan Zhan's wrist as he guided him towards the building's entrance. His touch on Lan Zhan felt so strong and warm, it made him feel conflicted, wishing at the same time Wei Ying would leave him alone and that he never let his wrist go.
Lan Zhan didn't have the courage to look at Wei Ying. After behaving like a complete savage while making a fool of himself he had hurt Wei Ying. Again. How he wished the ground would open and just swallow him.
They came to a halt, and Lan Zhan was confused. He finally couldn't avoid lifting his gaze towards Wei Ying's face, he realized that more than enraged, as he supposed Wei Ying had become, he looked worried.
Without relenting his grip on Lan Zhan's wrist he took his cell phone out and looked at it. Seemingly satisfied, he pulled along Lan Zhan as he walked towards the street without saying a single word.
The sheer relief Lan Zhan experienced as he recognized the family car waiting for them curbside was indescribable. They were going home at last.
***
Never before had Lan Zhan given any thought to the concept of teletransportation. The hypothetical idea of transfer matter without traversing a physical space sounded so silly to him, except that right at that moment. Then he wished it was possible with all his heart. How he wanted to skip the trip home.
He knew he owed Wei Ying an apology, and of course, also to Wen Xu and Xue Yang, but the mere idea of apologizing to Wen Xu made his insides revolt, even if the man completely deserved it. Why? He wondered, he was so prone to this kind of faux-pas, why he wasn't able to control his impulses when Wei Ying was involved? These were, of course, merely rhetorical questions since he knew the answer perfectly. He was so in love that he made the most foolish mistakes where Wei Ying was concerned.
He had been so lost in his thoughts, staring fixedly at his hands, which were curled into fists, that he didn't even notice when the car stopped. It had been Wei Ying's voice who brought him out of his reverie.
"We're here Lan Zhan," Wei Ying announced and Lan Zhan felt so mortified by his lack of awareness that he didn't know how to react.
"Thank you," was all Lan Zhan was able to say.
After getting out of the car, they walked slowly towards the door. Suddenly, Lan Zhan stopped, taking a deep breath and closing his eyes, he turned towards Wei Ying and simply said: "I'm sorry. I apologize for my behavior. It was never my intention to embarrass you. I will apologize to Wen Xu and Xue Yang as well," and he bowed as low as he was capable of.
