FIVE

THE STARCOURT MALL WAS EERILY quiet after hours, only thing heard was the buzzing of the lights. It was the total opposite from the hours it was actually open, loud and chaotic. You could never hear the buzzing of the light fixtures during the day or even see all the stores without a crowd of people striding in and out. The mall wasn't peaceful at night, not even close, it held a spine-chilling atmosphere.

"The week is long, the silver cat feeds, when blue meets yellow in the west." The group of four recited as they read off the white board on the wall in front of them.

The group sighed, confused on what the recording meant. Some type of riddle of sorts. The group continued their journey out of the parlor, as Steve pulled the metal security barrier down and locking it at the bottom. "It just... It just can't be right."

"It's right."

"Honestly, i think it's great news."

Steve rolled his eyes, "How is this great news? I mean so much for being American heroes. It's total nonsense."

"It's not nonsense." Dustin had optimism about the entire thing unlike Steve or Dylan.

Dylan shook her head, a sigh escaping her lips. "Dustin i really want to be optimistic about this whole thing but it feels as if we just wasted the entire day just for it to be a riddle."

"No, it's too specific it's obviously a code."

"What do you mean a code?" Steve wondered, as him and Dylan fell back a few feet behind Robin and Dustin. "Like a super secret spy code."

Steve gave the boy a incredulous look, "That's a total stretch." He then looked to Dylan beside him, nudging her with his arm. The girl looked up at him, nodding in agreement.

"I don't know, is it?" Robin questioned, the group walking past empty stores. Neon lights illuminating the darkened mall. "You're buying into this? Are you Dylan?"

The girl sighed, "I really don't know what i think anymore. I'll just see what happens for right now."

"Just for kicks lets entertain the possibility that it is a secret Russian transmission. What'd you think they were gonna say, 'Fire the warhead at noon'?" Robin turned around, walking backwards as she entertained the idea of it.

"Exactly!" Dustin replied.

Robin continued, "And my translation is correct. I know that for sure so... 'The silver cat feeds.' Why would anyone talk like that unless they're trying to mask the meaning of their message?"

"Exactly."

"Okay, i see what you're getting at here." Dylan nodded her head slowly as she processed the information.

"Why would anyone mask the true meaning of their message unless the message was somehow sensitive? So i guess that confirms your suspicion."

"Evil Russians." Dustin told Steve and Dylan.

Robin turned her head at Dylan, "I can't believe i'm about to agree with this strange child but yeah, totally evil Russians." She let out a tiny laugh at her words.
