Chapter 11
I looked at our now intertwined hands and let go as a sudden noise came from behind us.
" Cari?" iris's little brother Marvin called from his bed.
" Shh! Go back to bed." Josh whispered with a silly grin on his face.
" No I'm telling your mommy Cari!" he pulled the thick sheets off him and jumped out of bed.
" No no don't Marvin. Please!" I begged. He pulled a devious smile on his lips.
" Or what?" he stated. He was slowly walking towards the door as if to tease me.
" Or I'll tell your mom that you were out of bed." I accused.
" No Caridad! No please. I'm going to bed see?" he jumped over us and pounced on his bed pulling the sheets on top of him. Josh laughed and grabbed my hand to lift me off the floor. He walked me to my room and stopped at the door.
" What?" I asked after a minute of him staring at me intently.
" I'm debating whether or not to just hug you and say goodnight or give you your present early." he said digging int his basketball shorts pockets.
" Wait, I thought the bracelet was my present. I spoke confused.
" It was, but not your Christmas present." he answered a grin on his face.
" You really don't have to get me anything." I said my bangs falling in my eyes. Josh chuckled and brushed them away from my face. He inched closer and kissed my forehead.
" I want to sweetie." He said caressing my cheek. I was amazed at how in a few short days how much I had fallen for him and he for I. I wrapped my arms arms around his neck and squeezed tightly.
" I love you." I said absent mindedly. I inhaled his scent of Axe shampoo and sighed in content.
" I love you too." he replied and I smiled. I used to hate him. Or did I. Love is a passionate emotion. Hate is a passionate emotion. I guess I just mistook my love for hate.
2 days later ( Christmas Day)
I woke up as a chill was sent through my body. I pulled to covers over my head and groaned. Suddenly I felt a lot of pressure on top of me and I let out all my breath. I lowered the blanket bellow my nose to see the figure above me.
" Wake up Cari it's Christmas! Sant left us present." Iris shouted. I knew she was doing that for Danielle.
I jumped out of bed and got ready. I ran down the hall. Danielle followed me and and everyone was already there. Josh looked up from an elegantly wrapped bow and smiled up at me. I smiled back and went to sit next to him. I reached under the couch and got out the gift l got him yesterday. He was going to love it.
It was tradition to wait till everyone arrived before opening presents. When Iris and Danielle where seated we exchanged gifts in the boxes with each of our names on them. I watched as my box filled with presents. I placed my gifts in the designated boxes and saved Josh's for last.
We waked together hand in hand back to the couch and my dad passed out the boxes. I reached for the first gift which happened to be from Josh and looked at the delicate wrapping. A large gold bow was atop shiny Christmas tree wrapping paper. Josh rolled his eyes when I looked at him and urged me to open it. I ripped at the paper and Josh put the bow in my hair. I just sat there in shock staring at the small envelope and mini scrapbook. I set the envelope aside and opened the book to the first page.
From: Josh
To: Caridad Tammy Diaz
Hi Cari,
I know it was stupid to put your full name and only put Josh, but your name is so pretty I had to. This is a scrapbook I made from the short moments of our friendship we've had. From the milkshakes where I made a truce, to now. Look up and say cheese.
