Chapter 17

Caridad's POV

Iris and I went to my room to get our bathing suits. Iris always leaves a bathing suit at my house so she doesn't have to bring anything. I toss her bikini top to her and a pair of swimming shorts. She thanked me and ran into the bathroom to change. I locked my door and searched through my drawers for my bathing suit. I felt very uncomfortable with all the guys here to wear my usual tank top bathing suit. I put it on and just placed a long shirt over it. I looked down at the random shirt and realized that it belonged to Josh. I don't remember him leaving his shirt here. Unless he left it here after school one day.

I clutched onto it and brought it to my nose. I could still smell his scent and a hint of chocolate Axe. I opened the door and was instantly greeting by Iris.

" You take forever!" she joked.

I pushed past her with a laughing smile and walked out to the back porch. Nate was just coming on his bike and was already in his swimming trunks, shirtless might I add. Iris ran to him and jumped on his back once he got off his bike. She rode him like a horse all the way to the entrance of the back porch.

" Where's Brice? I thought he was coming with you." I asked him. He nodded and pointed behind him.

There was Brice, holding his bike chain in one hand and moving the bike with the other. I gawked at his appearance. His abdominal area was carved deep and his arm muscles were very built I stared in awe as he threw the chain on the floor and set his bike against the wall. He walked over to me and grabbed the hem of my shirt.

" Your not gonna take that off?" He asked me.

" No..." I replied. He looked over to Iris who had her hands wrapped around Nate's neck. When Matthew comes he's gone have a fit!

" Well Iris is fine with wearing a bikini. Come on Cari. We're all friends here." He insisted.

I rolled my eyes at him and entered the patio. Iris followed suit and dragged Nate in. Brice had no choice but to follow. I looked at Iris and saw that she was sort of hiding herself around her stomach to hide her showing skin. She probably also felt uncomfortable. I didn't see why. She was actually fairly skinny and looked great in her bikini. She always told me I should wear a bikini too because of my body structure but it felt too revealing.

" So are we getting in?" Nate asked.

I nodded my head and he grabbed Iris by her waist. She let out a yelp as he began to climb the ladder and jumped with her into the pool. Brice walked over to me with an evil grin. I backed away and ran to the pool before he could grab me. I jumped into the pool and my head bobbed to the surface. Josh's shirt was to big for me so it was easily slipped off of my body. I looked down at my bathing suit and at my showing midriff.

" CANNON BALL!!!" I heard Brice yell. I found myself laughing and cheering as he almost fell onto Nate.

I had the time of my life in the pool. I didn't feel the least bit uncomfortable with the guys there. Matthew decided to go with him girlfriend instead of hanging with us but that was fine with me.

" So when are we gonna go out Cari?" Brice asked when we were drying off. I jumped up and shook my hands at him.

" I didn't mean it like that! Just hanging out. McDonalds or something." He reassured me. I calmed down and smiled.

" Tomorrow I guess." I told him.

" Great. I'll see you tomorrow then." He put on his dry shirt and kept his now dry swimming trunks on. He ran off and dragged him bike back to his house.

Brice and I... At McDonalds... This doesn't feel right.

Josh's POV

I took out my phone to call all my friends before the phone connection got cut off by the upcoming snow storm. I dialed Brice first, who was directly before Caridad in my phone book. I waited for him to pick up.

" Dude I was just about to call you." He said.

" About what?" I asked.

" I just got back from Cari's house and I wanted to ask you something."

" What?" I asked. I was kind of nervous because if my thoughts were correct, it was something about Cari. My Cari.

" I asked her if she wanted to hang out and she said tomorrow. We're going to McDonalds. Is that okay with you? She didn't look to sure so I wanted to know so I could reassure her that it was okay."

My mind went wild with emotions. I was confused beyond belief of what I should feel at the moment. I can't believe Brice actually asked Cari out. I mean, it's just hanging out right? It should all be fine. But still. I trusted him and he went and asked her to hang out. At McDonalds of all places!

" Josh? Dude you there?" He asked.

" Why would you do that! I can't believe you asked her out! Seriously man I trusted you! Just because I'm not there doesn't mean you have to go and hit on her. We're still dating you know! I love her Brice and I need to know that my best friend isn't going to ruin that. I was okay with the pool but really! A date!" Anger flushed through me as I gripped the phone harder and harder.

" Josh calm down. Look I'm sorry. I didn't know that asking her to hang out at McDonalds for a frickin burger would upset you." He sounded a bit frustrated himself.

" Go ahead and do what you want. I know it's just a burger but I interpreted it wrong. I'm worry man." I tried to calm down.

" Look. I have to admit something... I've liked Caridad for awhile now. Since at least 6th grade. I just want you to know that this isn't gonna affect you and Cari at all. I'll keep my feelings hidden and it won't be weird for her. I don't want to get between you guys and our own friendship too." I dropped my phone on the ground and quickly picked it up. I didn't see that coming.

" I gtg. I'll talk to you next week when the blizzard passes." I hung up the phone without letting him say goodbye. I dialed Cari's number and waited desperately for her to answer.

" FLAVVAAA!!!" She yelled into the phone. I heard Iris yelling in the background also. My anger instantly melted.

" How are you babe?" I asked.

" I'm good. The guys left a few minutes ago and now it's just Iris and I. We're having cupcakes!" She said excitedly. I finally decided to just go with the flow and not make this complicated.

" That's epic!" I played along. I didn't know how good I was faking it though.

" Hey we're gonna go to CVS soon so ima let you go baby." She said.

" Okay Cari. I love you." I told her.

" Love you too. Bye." And she hung up. I let out a groan and tossed myself on the bed. I decided against talking to anyone else. I just laid there.

I love her. But whatever makes her happy is what I'll accept.
