Chapter 18

The door opened with a creak as I placed the wooden spoon down. I turned down the heat on the macaroni and walked out of the kitchen. I rose a an eyebrow as I saw a letter on the welcome mat outside. The door was wide open and I could still hear footsteps. I picked up the letter and closed the door. I heard the footsteps coming from upstairs and heading up.

" Hello?" I called out. I heard a small yell and my heart started to race.

" Who's there?" I asked. I ran upstairs as the footsteps got louder.

I saw a figure leaned over my bed, caressing another figure on top. I walked closer and the sun shined on the figure. It was Josh. I ran to him and threw my arms around him. He didn't flinch. Actually, he didn't feel me at all. My hands went right through him.

I saw tears in his eyes, hands gripping the hand on the figure on the bed. I looked to the figure and it was me, blood streaming like tears from my eyes.

I shot up in bed with a shriek. I wipes my eyes, coated with tears. I ran to the bathroom and immediately checked if they were tears and not blood. My hands were shaking from the anxiety I was experiencing and it was hard to breath. My face was pale and my eyes red. I took the time to calm down and then got dressed. I put on a thin line of eye liner and a lilac shade of eyeshadow to match my shirt. I put on a simple black skirt that reached just above my knees and elegant black gladiator sandals. I didn't know why I was dressing so nicely, but then I saw my calendar. I immediately wanted to change. I totally forgot about McDonald's with Brice.

McDonald's was about one mile from my house so I was just going to walk with him over there. I can't walk for that long in a skirt and sandals. Plus, I'd never let Brice see me in a skirt. I went back to my room and quickly changed into a pair of jeans and Converse. Just as I finished tying my laces, my alarm clock rang. I looked at the time, 1:00. What?! I just woke up like ten minutes ago!

I hurried downstairs and my family stared at me.

" Morning sweetheart. Or should I say afternoon." My mother teased. I didn't realize I had slept for so long. And that dream... It just scared the living daylights out of me.

" Breakfast is in the kitchen if you still want it." My father told me. I shook my head.

" I'll wait for Brice." I told him. His eyes went wide and he looked at my mother.

" They going to McDonald's." She explained. He seemed to let out a sigh of relief.

" So are you going to give Josh a call before you go?" He asked me. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

" Too late for that." I shrugged. I then remembered that I couldn't communicate with him because of the storm. I pray to God he's alright.

I went to the door and opened it just to be greeted by a bear hug. Brice lifted me off the ground and spun me around. When he finally set me down, I looked at my parents to see their brows raised in confusion. I just shrugged and grabbed my purse. I placed it over my head and across my shoulder and walked out of the house. Brice and I walked so close that our arms brushed past each other. A cold shiver ran up my arm and spiked my senses. I moved away slightly so he wouldn't notice.

" What do you want?" He asked me once we were at McDonald's.

" Big Mac!" I said abruptly. I calmed down and he just laughed.

" Wow really? Most skinny girls would be like ' Just a 5 piece chicken nugget with low fat milk. I probably won't finish it anyways'" He mocked.

" Well I'm no skinny preppy chick so... Oh can I have a cookie!" I told him. He nodded and ordered our meal. He got the same as me with a large coke. I noticed he only got one.
